Because they unfortunately suffer from low self-esteem, are afraid of being alone, and fear that they won't find another relationship. Since they stay in the bad relationship, it becomes a horrible self-fulfilling prophecy--they never find another relationship because they're afraid to leave the bad one and their self-esteem just sinks lower and lower. It's very sad.

Because they dont know anything else, and the person doing the bashing has broken the persons soul and spirit so much that they usually think that they deserve what they are getting, its a really vicious cycle to get out of, the person being beaten is also usually financially dependent on the other person as well which makes it sometimes almost impossible to escape!

people's self esteem is made at an early age. Cocky people had their way as a kid. People with low self esteem were treated like **** as a child. This has increased dramatically as the divorce rates have risen. Small children are treated like **** by a step-parent. This is what happens to a country that allows Jews to immigrate unchecked. They take control of the media. The soap operas started the slide towards the sewer. They have no meaing other than to corrupt people's minds.

They become addicted to the high that they get when they feel that everything is okay, only to crash to a low when things are abusive. The cycle repeats itself giving the woman a high and euphoric feeling. It is an addiction to the release of dopamine and an adrenaline rush much like when you run.

Confusion: battered spouse's syndrome.
Isolation, lack of money, social supports.
The wrong advice from others who think she should stay because of the children.
The tremendous past investment of her time and energy in this relationship with all of its aspects, especially if she has had to call upon her inner resources again and again to keep going.
The sense of responsibility to "hang in there".
The cruelty of society if she does leave and needs housing and financial support to survive.

Because they think nobody else will want them. Also some of them have a martyr complex. As long as they are the beaten one then the other partner is the bad one.

Although they are miserable, it's comfortable. It's something that's hard to move away from or either they think they can "fix" it.
