Seriously....that's a tough one, Jim.

Why? Because for some odd reason I think that people ought to respect the various categories in Y/A and post their stuff accordingly. No offense whatsoever to your postings, but I would think they'd be just as funny in the Jokes section. Hey...funny is funny; it shouldn't depend on a category for effectiveness.

Unless your actual intent is just to poke sticks at the Christians...

And yes, I think that the Christians ought to lighten-up and have a sense of humor, but sometimes there's a fine line between humor and insult.

But then, I've always been one to mostly "play by the rules." Silly old me...

The disproportionate style of persons who use this communicate board for the purpose of attacking or ridiculing (brazenly or covertly) religions and spirituality many times. And the style of persons who shop reacting to their efforts, which perpetuates the situation via making it worth doing. that's 2 sided. If no person took the bait it does not be worth "baiting" in this internet site. that's makes what was an exciting internet site, rather uninteresting recently.

Remember, this place is populated by people, among others, who regularly ask in all seriousness, "So do atheists REALLY worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster? How are we supposed to take that seriously? Why can't they just worship God?"

So while the answer is yes, you've got to allow for a good proportion of it bouncing off without even being noticed.

There are ways to be witty without resorting to ridicule and scorn. That is not humor, especially to the recipients. Attempts to use sarcasm, like mocking or scoffing to expose and discredit people or their beliefs is disgraceful and hurtful. It says more about your own intolerance and lack of morals. The fact that most of the atheists on here rationalize and justify their bad conduct does not make it right or appropriate. If anything, it has proved to everyone the bible verses that says you are fools.

Life without humor is boring. Remember to be the first to laugh at yourself so you won't be the last to get the joke. Satire should be used with discretion and people in general need to lighten up!

Absolutely, the danger, of course, is that people may not recognise it.

Another problem is that the purpose of satire is, as Michael Flanders once said, "to strip away the veneer of comforting illusion and cosy half-truth," and many people would prefer you left it alone.

Much more appropriate than hostility. At least satire has a sense of humor ;-)

As far as I see it, satire should be a subcategory in nearly every category, not just R&S. But there is probably a greater need for one in here! (But that'd make it a sub-sub-category, wouldn't it?)

This medium (print) is probably not the best for conveying satire, unless you are really good with language, because the context of your voice tone & body language is missing (people can't tell if you are serious, stupid, or trying to be funny).
