Buy mason jars and put votive candles in them. Buy gingham ribbon and tie it around the top. Can use for centerpieces or to place around the barn.

That sounds like a great idea! I would think of getting some soft blankets to lay over the bales of hay though, so people won't stand up and have hay stuck to their butts! Try to find some in your colors. I would try to arrange a hayride(especially if you are going to have kids there) that would be a lot of fun, and go great with your theme. Have the DJ play a lot of country music. I would have a BBQ reception, put checkered tablecloths on the tables. Maybe hire a square dancing team to come and teach everyone a dance, that's lots of fun. For centerpieces on the tables, I would take a mason/canning jar, fill it with wild flowers and wrap some rafia around the jar. For candles, get bandannas and small clear glass candle holders. Decopage the bandanna ontot the glass candle and cut around the top. It will look really cool with the candle in it. I wouldn't put up too much in terms of decoration in the barn, it's enough by itself. I would only consider some big bulbed Christmas lights. I wouldn't get the small bulbed only because it would look to dainty in a barn. You need something more substantial. It sounds like a lot of fun! Good luck!

Since it will be end of Aug, I would suggest reds, oranges and yellows for the colors of flowers, decorations and brides maid dresses. Personally I like lilies but roses would also be really pretty. Carnations are also an option, probably less expensive than lilies or roses. For decorations I would use streamers, ribbons and bows. For table decorations, I would do floating candles in large holders with ribbons in the correct colors tied around the holders. Or rose pettals, in the correct colors of course, spread on the tables with votive candles in the middle. Just use a white table cloth on the tables. Have a long buffet style table with the food spread out on it, no need to decorate that table. A seperate table for the cake though. Hope this gives you some ideas!

awesome! I am planning mine for my parents farm as well...we have toooo many guests to seat them on haybails though! LOL
You may want to get some woven and quilted blankets to place on the haybails for comfort and to keep the ladies from ruining any delicate fabric clothing and pantyhose...we hate getting snags in them! Plus that hay pokes through and can get itchy! Get blankets that have the look of hand-quilted or horse blankets to add country charm.
Use shepards hooks to hang your "pew bows" or floral decorations down the isle....you could even use some twine in w/the floral decorations instead of just simple ribbon!
Lots of grapevine and white lights...stay away from candles if possible...a barn can go up REAL quick!
Maybe incorporate some lucky horseshoes in the decor...you could even get smaller horseshoes and have a nice little message hand-painted on and give them as favors at the reception.
If you need more ideas, feel free to email me! It would take to long to type them all out here!

Haybells are such a good Idea! Ive heard of it before & I loved it! And instead of roses because they seem too formal try, daisies, sunflowers, gerber daisies, or some kind of wild flower. Also have snack foods or Bbq...That seems very country. Have all the guests wear western attire & have your wedding party wear boots. You might want to try lanterns with bandanas or cowboy boots as center pieces. I hope this helps! Congratulations & Good Luck :)

To add some flowers to the event, put some stakes in the ground that have hooks off the top and hang some flower balls down. I'm sure they aren't called flower balls but I can't think of the name of them right now, but if you do them with sunflowers they will look rustic enough to go with the theme, they will mark off the "pews" (haybales) and the flower balls (I will find the name of those) will add just a touch of elegance to it. Just an idea. Or at the rehearsal dinner you can have everyone paint a pot and you can put some fully grown sunflowers in there. Use those to mark off the pews and decorate the interior of the barn. Just a few thoughts. I'm going to find the name of the flower balls.
EDIT: They're called pomanders. You can totally make them yourself. You can use silk sunflowers and insert them into a greem foam ball and just cover the foam with the sunflowers. It would look amazing hanging off a shepards hook. I don't know why I got 2 thumbs down. Oh well.

My ex b/f is a drummer and he played a wedding near Chapel Hill, NC and it was outside. The band had a covered pick-up truck and fold out stage and it was raining so hard that we couldn't even find the driveway. But it turned out to be a blast, mud like you have never seen, but the wedding went on under a gazebo on the pier in the pond. And roasted smoked oysters in such abundace that you thought you would burst. And still the blues band played on under the shelter of a pick up and it was the best wedding I have ever heard of or attended and who cared that was raining . I think your barn wedding is a great idea and it reminded me of this wedding and it was maybe 7 years ago that I went to it. Good Luck!

If you're going to have them sit on Hay bales, I would put some fabric over them so they don't have to sit right on the hay. Sounds cute though. My friend was going to have a country wedding like this. She had some cute ideas......For the reception, she was going to have pop and beer (in the bottles) in wash tubs (antique). I thought that sounded cute.

I envision a field of wildflowers on a summers day, the groom in a cowboy hat and a petting farm with baby animals. Maybe ask the women in your family and his if they would mind making their favorite dish and have a buffet style dinner with all homemade dishes. If the barn has a hayloft you should get a picture of the two of you jumping out of the loft onto a pile of hay too.
