He is usually is such a happy boy. His demeanor has completely changed. He's become extremely clingy and irritable. He refuses to eat lunch. So far the only thing I have been able to get him to eat is fruit and sweet pot. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have already made an appointment for today, we couldn't get in because of the long weekend. But just curious as to what other parents have to say about this.

I did go to the doctor later that afternoon and he does in fact have a virus, they ran blood tests and strep tests. He evidently has the stomach virus going around right now. He is acting so much more like himself. A huge relief for me! Thanks for all of your answers and concern.

With all the things that are going on with children, my advice is to get him to the doctor and if you are not satisfied with his answer, go and see someone else. I wouldn't let it ride.
Don't want to scare you, but better safe than sorry later.
Good luck and all the best

I have just recently done quite a bit of research on this subject. My daughter had a mild reaction to her six month shots so I wanted to find out more. It seemed that children that had the most negative reactions to the shots long term (there is no scientific data to suggest the long term effects are even from the shots becasue of lack of research) also seemed to have extremely high fevers swollen legs, almost like very bad allergic reaction to either the disease or the chemicals in the shots. They cried out in high pitch shreeking. I just read a great article in autism connect if you search pitocin and pretzels it will come up. It makes sense to me. It will help you relax not alarm you. I don't agree with the methods of vaccinations. After my experience with my daughter, I will never allow her to get shots when she has cold or recently had one. I would have also spread them out. There is no reason to give five shots at one time. Its too much. Reactions are a reality, but my opinion is that the reactions that are long term are from the effects of an extremely high fever and extreme allergic reaction. It seems that most children who have reactions have somewhat immediate reactions and have a hard time recovering. My grandma in law is dangerously allergic to tetanis and when given it as an adult she had to be hospitalized. Her son was given the shot as an infant and also appeared to be allergic. He recovered, but she lied about his medical records throughout the rest of his school age. Children and adults can definitely have serious reactions, but they are rare.
i just want to add, my daughter had mild sniffles when vaccinated and ended up with a terrible cold that lasted two weeks. It can take a while to fight off the vaccinations especially if your son was already fighting something off.

12 1/2 months old could just be teething. My daughter was the same way from about 1 year to 18 months. She would get cranky because her mouth hurt and the only food she would eat was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches - seriously. The doctor said to make sure she drank milk with it and whole fruit juices and to make sure I used low sugar, whole fruit jams and in time she would grow out of it. He was right. Good Luck.

It's not the immunization. Kids go through phases where they eat more then eat less. Being fussy and clingy is what the one year old is all about. Mine doesn't even want me to go to the bathroom without him trying to sit on my lap!! The fussing could be anything from gas to teething pain or frustration because they can't do what they want yet. He'll eat more when he feels like eating.
