and that hard work always succeeds?
Are there people who work hard all their lives but never do anything but keep their heads above water....financially speaking?

Poor people are poor in part because the society they live in breeds poor people. My father was extremely hardworking. He started his own business as a carpenter and was doing ok. Then, bankruptcy. We lost everything. It's hard to recover from that. It took a long time.

I do know from personal experience, it is really a huge struggle to keep your head above water and get out of the drowning pool of debt and min. wage. Most people just give up or don't even try because the state will pay for them. There was a time when I was growing up and after I was married where we received assistance and I don't know what we would have done without it. I also know we have always paid in and we are thankful it is there for those who really need help. There are plenty who take full advantage and could be working and not on any type of assistance. We have not been assistance for many years and we came out of the drowning pool in pretty good shape. No one should ever think they are immune - it could happen in a blink of an eye, and to those abusing the system - be proud you are taking food and money from a child some where. The Bible tells us hard work is honorable.

of course there are hard working people that are barely getting by. Just look around.
But to make such a sweeping generalization like poor people are poor because they are lazy is, well, rude. (not accusing, just saying)
Are some people poor due to a lack of effort. Sure. Are some people poor for other reasons. Sure. Do some people work their butts off and still live below the poverty line. Sure.
Sometimes people don't have money because of a lack of judgment in financial matters. Some people suffer disasters and lose everything and struggle the rest of their lives to recover. Some people become ill and go in to such a deep debt they never recover. Some people work for the wrong company and get scammed out of their life savings. Some people lose everything from divorce, or from taking care of a family member that drains everything they have. Some people lose everything from gambling or drugs or alcohol. Some people get sued and lose everything.
You never know what is going to happen to you, so the best thing to do is thank God each day for what you have and manage it wisely.

Often this is true, but not always. Sometimes circumstances keep you from being all you can be. If you work a crappy, low-paying job that manages to keep your family afloat, you may not want to quit that job, placing your family in jeopardy, so you can find another one that is better for you. Often the realities of life and the job market prevent you from job-shopping while you have a job.

I could come up with other antecdotes that are exceptions to the 'poor people are lazy' rule, but I think you'll find it holds true about half the time. Some people are victims of circumstance or disability (and these are usually the people who use a couple years of assistance and then get it together). I've known people who genuinely needed the help they got, and then I've known others who just take free help because it is there.

You should take a sociology class or read a sociology book. I thought the same until I took a class in college. You'd be surprised how the socialization of people can affect the rest of their lives. When you grow up in an environment where nobody wants to teach you anything and nobody thinks schooling and hard work are valuable things, it's no surprise you would grow up to become the same type of person. And when you're poor as a kid and living in the ghetto, it's much harder to rise above and get an education and a better life. It can be done, or course, but only for the lucky few and the REALLY hard workers.

Many poor people are just honest. I've met a lot who think you have to work hard for your money. If you tell them about an easy way to get rich like the internet, they'll just ignore you. I have a brother who has millions and all through hard work over a 25 year period, but if he'd taken some of his money and invested in a business or in the internet he would have hundreds of millions. Some people are just lucky. They have a mentor show them the way to riches at a young age. There are many people who are gifted that just didn't have their zest to succeed sparked. I've met many people who could have been great singers and artists, but they just existed at a stupid job. I would say the richest people are damn lazy. I don't think Donald Trump would or has to do physical labor. Most rich people are probably ignorant bastards like him. Everytime he frigs a girl she goes around saying he's the greatest lover, yeah right. He's probably got a three inch cock and he'd look real good with his prune face and hair all messed up sweaty....Could you just see it now.

Not necessarily. As you say some will work hard their whole lives and never get ahead in the worlds terms. But then if you look at it with the biblical understanding, they are much better off really, as it says the poor will inherit the Earth, the last or poor will be the richest in Heaven and the richest here will be last in Heaven. there are a lot that are just plain old lazy and that is a curse to not only them but to society as a whole.

There are definitely two types of poor people. Those who work hard but are unfortunate in someway thus never achieving financial success.

And those that believed in entitlements and the right to a decent life even if they dont work. Many of these people believe that life has been unfair to them in some way and get into a rut. Then they spend time griping, or drinking rather than digging in a finding their solutions.

Not all poor people are poor by their own doing (or lack of doing, as the case may be).

Some are -- I had an uncle who owned a small local hotel chain who passed a guy holding a "will work for food" sign. My uncle offered him a room to stay in at the hotel and a job making well over minimum wage. The dude flat out turned him down saying he didn't want a job, he wanted food.

On the flip side, I've worked with various shelters to help people arrange for jobs and many of them broke down in tears with joy when they got the call back saying they had a job... and these same people now work at the shelter voluntarily as well to help others who want to acheive.

Sadly, success is an unequal balance of hard work, perserverance, and just plain dumb-luck... for some people, a break's all they need and it never comes, for some people, a little hard work's all they'd need but they refuse to do it.

It is probably one of many reasons. There are more poor and needy people in the world than rich ones.
Most of us mortals work hard all of our lives to keep alive. So, what's the deal? It seems that hard work alone is not the answer to becoming rich. It takes something else that most commoners are not aware of.
This issue leads to another endless debate: What is the reason of living? Why do us humans exist? In the end we all have to die, so why strive to make others rich?
Now, you tell me, are you poor and lazy or rich and active?
