I have to laugh at this one because I have the same problem, I use Resolve or 409 carpet and it works real well on oil and grease, and I use the spray. Spray, scrub with dry clean cloth, let dry and vaccum. Has too work well or the wife would kick my you know what.

Finish Line citrus degreaser, full strength, let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Add water to dilute, and scrub well. Clean up with portable suction cleaner like a Bissell or Dirt Devil, etc.

If it's dried in - get a professional - because you will not shift it with domestic cleaning products; you will waste time and effort trying to get rid of it - if it's wet, Swarfega will shift it; best advice though is to get a professional in - they don't cost that much; I had to get a professional in to clean pollen off a white carpet - and he did it in 10 minutes - it cost me £20 plus VAT.
