In the past two days, my dog has changed drastically. He is usually a fun loving dog. He has become quite nervous. When we approach him, he gets very nervous, its almost as if he thinks we will hurt him. At times, he has also become aggressive. He is eating and drinking as usual, but does not ask to go out as often. He is more alert than usual, won't sleep, almost as if he is standing guard for something. What do you think could be bothering him. Should I take him to the vet of just wait it out for a while?

Something must of really scared that dog. I would take him to the vet because it is better to be safe than sorry. My dog is a very nervous dog and when something really scares her she freaks herself out so much that she runs a high temperature. Take the dog to the vet just to be sure.

Sometimes that could just mean that he is in pain.

Other times they know that a big storm is coming. They get more alert, tense, and sometimes they look as if they are like gonna have a spazz attack.

Also does one of your neighbors hit him or something when you are at work that can make him scared of people. That could maybe be happening only if you keep him outside.

But my best bet is that he has some underlieing problem. You should deffinitly take him to the vet if it has been going on for 2 days.

Any sudden change in personality can be a sign of a physical problem. If the vet does not find a reason for the change consult a certified behaviorist. Pups do go through a second fear stage when about a year old but this sounds like something else may be going on.

I have heard a story about a dog, who was at home alone, and people were doing construction work. The people had to go into the backyard to do something involved with the construction. The dog barked at them. They sprayed the dog with mace. The owners found out, and they took the dog to a 4-H club to interact with other people and animals, and he got better. If you don't think this happened to you, try to earn the dogs trust, and ask a vet.

I agree with the others. It seems like your dog is in pain. They usually get really nervous and have behavioral changes. If he is getting aggressive when you are touching him or trying to hold him then he is most likely in pain.. You should take him to the vet as soon as you can to see what is wrong.

Something is going on with your dog and I am not for sure what it could be. Since his behavior has changed so drastically I would suggest you take him to the vet or at least call the vet and talk with him/her about the behavior changes. Good luck!

Whenever your pet is not doing as normal it is usually a sign that they need help or meds. Either case you should take them in to see the vet. Better safe than sorry.
There is something going on and if you put it off and it is life threatening then it would be too late for the vet to save them.

I actually just watched "Animal Cops" last night and there was a dog on there that was acting the same way. His problem was he had cataracts in both eyes. So since the poor thing couldn't see good, he was cautious and very strange acting. Wouldn't let anyone really near him. I hope this helps, and yes..I think you should take your baby to the Dr. :)

Get him to the vet asap!! It could be something spooked him, but you must rule out a medical problem first, as that is quite often the cause of sudden behavior changes.
