do you also think that fornication should be illegal, since that is also prohibited by the Bible? AND IF SO (and this is the main question) Why don't you ever hear anyone saying so?? Why isn't there a movement to make it so?
-Yes, I already asked this, I'm rephrasing it to make myself clearer.
-No, this is not the stance I take
-Give an opinion if you like, but this question is intended toward people who claim to be Christians and claim to want gay marriage to remain illegal.

This really comes down to Christians trying to dictate to the majority of the world who do not follow their religion. By what right do Christians demand such things as the banning of gay marriage, abortion, contraception or anything else?
As far as I am concerned Christians can believe and worship what they wish as long as it does not adversely affect anyone outside their religion. So they can be quite free to impose that WITHIN their religion.
They should be careful in their demands for politics and law to follow religion - There are growing numbers following other religions and they too have a right to their beliefs. If Christians win the right to impose religious doctrine sooner or later other religious groups will gain the same rights. Would the Christians then accept being required to prey to Mohamed, stone adulterers or perhaps refrain from work and worship on a Saturday like the Jews.
What this is about really is religious intolerance by Christians.

Gay marriage should remain illegal because what we permit increases. Before long, all of our children will think they are homosexual and some do even today. They've heard about it too much. They think because the opposite sex pays them no attention in school that they should be homosexual. The lifestyle of most homosexuals is that the men continually have different partners and live a life of nighttime bars. In Austin, TX, a gay middle aged man was killed. His head was beaten in by a hammer and then his throat was cut. Three men were involved.
One did the killing. One did the seducing or the gay lover. One carried the hammer in a bag. They wanted to take his money and car and go to California. The family did not ask for the death penalty, but all three men got life in prison. Four lives ruined. I set on the jury. We are promoting the gay/lesbian lifestyle and we are promoting fornication. Can you really say that it makes our society better? Can you really say that everything should be tolerated? Gays don't have children. Fornicators spread AIDS.
Before long and at this rate of toleration can we exist?

I don't claim to be a christian, I am a christian. No, I don't think there is such a thing as a gay marriage, nor should such a thing be legalized or even brought to the floor for consideration. Fornication is illegal according to the bible standards, but it is not an abomination, and assuming that only a male and female could commit fornication, it is forgivable by the almighty. Whereas gay/lesbian is so unnatural, it is sickening in the sight of God.

I'm all for it. Knock yourself out. The real question is why do homosexuals want a heterosexual definition of marriage? If a marriage is defined in several sources as a union between a man and a woman, then I would think that we could come up with the equivilent definition for homosexuals....??? Right? Why not draft some legislation defining a union for homosexuals and include whatever you want in it? Expand it! Make it meaningful in the gay community and let the spiritual war over marriage end. Find something better to litigate your love for another human. Just a thought.

Where in the Bible does it specifically prohibit gay marriage? I know what Paul says about sexual behavior, but considering the behavior that was commonplace within the Roman Empire of his time, I think he was pretty restrained. He is clearly talking about being ruled by lust, gratification without concern for the humanity of others. This would apply equally to heterosexual and homosexual activity. I don’t find anything about prohibiting a loving, committed relationship.
If anybody wants to argue that the Sodom and Gomorra story was about gay sex, they are basically saying that God would have been perfectly happy if the people of the cities were gang-raping women.
When the laws of Leviticus were given they were dealing with much the same as in Paul’s time, pagan influences that included very unacceptable sexual behavior.
I’m still waiting for somebody to show me the verse that specifically prohibits publicly acknowledging a committed, loving relationship between two people of the same sex? We are not talking about forcing churches to perform the ceremony, we are talking about a civil service.
Perhaps to avoid hypocrisy, people who are divorced or who have in any other way dishonored their marriage vows should keep their opinions to themselves.

Gay/Lesbian marriages should not be illegal. Religions have no right in deciding what should be legal or illegal. The Christian jurisdiction lies within it's own church.
However, Churches are in their right to decide if THEY want to perform. This is a right that they have been excercising for over 200 years. The Catholic church will never accept to perform a wedding for a couple if one of them is not a Catholic. Just like Protestants are not willing to marry anyone who is not Protestant. Thus, they are within their right if they don't want to perform a marriage for a gay/lesbian couple.
But the GOVERNMENT does not have the right to discriminate against anyone. Thus, the government must perform the marriage. If the Judge have a problem for performing a gay/lesbian wedding, maybe that Judge should be removed from the bench.

Since we're not a nation that is only under christianity, N-O! I was born christian but am a spiritualist now. Means I have my christian standerds but other religeons and believes are mixed in.
Why shouldnt gay couples get married. If they love eachother I'm all for it. Heck, I would even attend the marriage. Know why. Homosexuals are real spiritual, moral people too. There is nothing wronge with them. Personally I perfer women, already love 2 or 3. But I see nothing wrong with finding love in the same sex. Hell, I have a dude I love and we're like best of friends. Doesnt mean that I want to kiss, make love to, or marry him. Means that I really like him for who he is. From that viewpoint I can understand why same sex can get married.

I think heterosexual marriage should also become illegal too because nobody can know the intent in everybody's mind for marriage, whether it's really, honestly, for children or not (unless someone really does have a working crystal ball), and even when the intent is for children I'm finding a lot of people don't do a very good job of raising them anymore... common sense and discipline is at an all time low in parents. I'm seeing children dying or neglected from ego-centric behavior on the part of a large number of parents or because the parents simply lack attention to detail and common sense.
I'm also against heterosexual marriage because many heterosexuals use their sexuality to harm others and cause others suffering and they FLAUNT their sexuality in public and it's icky to me.
So if the LGBT community cannot get married on the basis of such things... then heteros shouldn't either. If someone is NOT using their sexuality to cause harm, unlike pedophiles and bestiality, which DO cause harm and suffering... then let the person ALONE.

Marriages involve papers and documents that the society should have a copy, the church even the government should have. A lot of people are involved in this process and since the government has a connection with churches why not use the government to bring the people to church, but the fornication? You can do this all day because no one else is involve but your self… it’s your choice to burn in hell or stop. The government, the churches, your mother, your father, your brother and who else has concerns can’t do anything with you fornicating all day but in same sex marriages they can take their part.

No. Religion is like underwear. Most people have it but keep it close to their skin, under their clothing. Polite people don't parade around with heir underwear exposed.
Christianity is but one of many religions, some denominations of Christianity sanction same sex marriage, others do not. No one way is any better or worse than the other. Some faiths permit same sex marriage, Reform Judaism for example. Then of course Buddhism.
Since there is no state sanctioned religon in the US there should be no religous influence on the rights of its law abiding citizens. Until such time as orientation is factored into the marriage equation then the federal laws as they currently stand are unjust.
