To be cool and ruin their backs and shoulders. It's just fashion. What I don't get are the kindergarteners who think they have the need for a rolling school bag. Those things are a hazzard and should be banned from public use.

Being 6'2 a back pack would limit my shoulder movement and it was very uncomfortable to actually have it on. Not only that but when I needed something it was on my back. I like mine like a purse where I could access everything from it.

It's a fad. I carried mine on one shoulder in if I didn't have anything really heavy in it.

Laziness I expect. It's easier than putting it on properly and the knowledge that in doing so they are probably doing their spines permanent damage isn't sufficiently significant at that age to prevent the habit.
