I am quite curious. Unlike some religious folks, I have no problem with atheists seeking to understand religion and spirituality. I simply have never seen such a high concentration of atheists in one place. Also, how come so many of you think we all want you all dead and hate you? Peace to you all

There are not many places elsewhere that show free expression to everyone about their religious views, and this place is one of the exceptions, so they like to share what they believe in without fear of being persecuted or 'banned', 'frozen' etcetera from other sites for saying what they think.

A lot of Atheists even though they do not believe in god, still like to give their own insights into things and are curious about what people of other religions say and believe in, which they are here to learn.

Not a lot of Atheists believe that either, mostly, Atheists have been yelled at and shunned and are tired by die-hard religious fanatics that they are going to hell, which does make a lot of them think that just because they don't believe in any god means a lot of other religious people hate them and, as you said, 'want you all dead'.
It's really a matter of persepective, Atheists are really only trying to tell others why they don't believe in any god, and true, some are just pain rude in what they say to others, and deserve the same respect as people who do believe in a form of god.

I don't think that ALL believers hate me, but there certainly are quite a few who seem to come here for no other reason than to attack people who don't share their beliefs.

I appreciate your tone in asking this question - as Jim pointed out, versions of it have been asked endless times, but almost always with a "what gives you the right?!" tone to it. However else you feel about it, you have to admit that there seems to be an endless supply of Christians who hate others, particularly atheists, homosexuals, and Muslims.

The reason that you have never seen such a concentration of atheists is that we're really not very concentrated - we're a small minority - certainly under 10% of all people - and of course there's no such thing as a central meeting place for atheists. We're also essentially ignored by the media and politicians and the like, so there's really not any reason for you to have seen large numbers in one place.

I don't know why there are so many here, but I have seen only a few myself. They(atheists) feel they are hated on because well..they are...they are persecuted for the fact they don't believe in a srpitial being. I am not quite an atheist, I do believe in God, but I don't go to Church for many reasons, I see alot of faults with Churchs, esp when a section of the bible says to talk to God in a room of your own house, and not let any other man talk to God for you. There is very little acceptance on the part of Religous people. It has been that way for many many years, it simply comes down to the fact you are different from me therefore are wrong as well.

I think you will find that many of the characters on R&S are from individuals with different accounts. That gives the impression that there are more Atheists than really exist. Also the reason that many Atheists believe that Christians hate them, is based on responses that you will consistently see to questions about the reality of God. For instance is an atheist asks, why do you believe in God, invariably there is a response from a Christian that follows the you are going to burn in hell for eternity if you don't change your evil ways response. Its a bit rude.

Religious folk are trying to take away our rights. Wouldn't you want to keep an eye on those who intend to persecute, jail, or execute you?

Besides, since I grew up a minister's son, majored in religion, and attended 1 year of seminary, studied Greek & Hebrew, and attended church and Sunday School for more than half my life, I think I have most of the knowledge I need regarding Christianity.

Individual people, however, are another matter.

I know that not all religius people hate us....but a great majority does. I understand that Christians are told to win souls for christ, etc. but I think there is a point where the preching becomes incessant. I am here to try and understand why most religious people detest athiests as if we are wicked and vile.

I'm here to spread the good word of freedom and reason.

I don't think all Christians have a problem with hate but at school board meetings I have received a number of threats and have been spit on a few times. I also receive frequent vitriolic e-mails from your brothers and sister.

I like how the Atheists regulars answer with sarcasm, as if they NEVER ask anything that's been asked a million times before. I think most the Atheists that hang here day after day, hour after hour are here because they like to argue and have nothing better to do. Most of them doesn't want to understand or learn anything about religion. They would rather call us ignorant and stupid.

Well, why wouldn't they want to spend a lot of their time talking about something they don't believe in?

The funny thing is, many atheists are very smart and cool people. It makes it interesting.

Except for the certain people who spend their time asking inane questions about what people think of them personally.
