Have they Taken a minute to check out other Books on the subject of creation? ok, so the bible says that Light came before the sun, and countless other mistakes, but have you read any verse in the Qur'an (for example) about this topic?
I recommend Chapter 21 (The prophets)

[21.30] Do not those who disbelieve see that the heavens and the earth were closed up, but We have opened them; and We have made of water everything living, will they not then believe?

[21.33] And He it is Who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all (orbs) travel along swiftly in their celestial spheres.

I know some of you have read This book (Or some of it), what's your opinion? and how does it compare with the Bible?

~~. Educated answers only please .~~

Leviathan, Doesn't water make over 70% of your body?

we share the basic Minerals found in the ground (Ca, P,S, K and a bit of the rest).

There is more than one way to understand something, you can argue with something in a way to make it wrong, even if it was right.

Well these verses were written much, much later and there was more knowledge then. From what you have typed there really isn't much that says it is more or less right than the biblical description, just slightly more vague.

You are so right, and you have shaken my faith, Oh what am I going to do. I have nothing to cling to anymore. Right!!

In Revelation 22:5 talking about a new heaven and a new earth it says,

5 There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.

I sometimes hear people say that God is energy, which does not describe God IMHO, but it appears in this verse that God is light, and when God is present, there is no need for any other light.

That would mean there is not an error in Genesis, who said there was light before the fourth day when the sun became the light.

Yes, I know the argument about the earth not being able to exist without the sun, but I believe God could have placed the earth first, then the sun, moon, and stars later, and placed the sun as the center of the universe around which all things revolve.
Which of you were there to say it isn't so.
What proof can anyone offer that makes it absolutely certain that it could not have happened that way.

As to the Quran, it was written after the Bible and it is clear that parts of the Bible are incorporated in the Quran, but with a little different twist.

The earth was created ex nihilo, without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

The universe was not made of the waters, but were made from nothing. There is no way Muhammad could have know that, and Muhammad could not read or write. Therefore he had someone else write what he had learned from others.

You wanted an intelligent answer only, I assume you mean only those who agree with you. I am sure my doctorate means nothing to you.

The Quran's mythology is based on the same mythological stories that are written throughout the Old Testament.
Listen, most atheists have a great amount of tolerance and respect for Jewish followers.
The Christians at least have a guy who walked on water.
But the Quran was inspired by a man who had "conversations with Gabriel in a Cave." It's the most ridiculous of the the Monothists. So why would we have any more respect for the Quran then we do the Bible.

I'm sure people can find hundreds of mistakes in these books. I only want to make a comment to the light being before the sun in the Bible. As far as I know, this refers to the light of God, not real light

The Genesis story is a parable and if you find mistakes it is only because you are reading it for literal meaning. My guess is that other ancient texts also wrote using symbols, metaphor. What a pity that all the carefully crafted imagery goes to waste in a world that can’t see past the surface meaning of anything.

Yes, I've read the Qu'ran. It reflected some of the best knowledge the Library of Alexandria had to offer even though that source had been lost by Muhammed's day.

Pity much of the scientific knowledge contained in the Library of Alexandria, and thus the Qu'ran, is false or incorrect.

Hmm. The Bible is obviously false in many ways, but light most certainly does predate the Sun. There were probably light frequency energies billions of years before our Sun formed.

Doesn't negate your overall point, of course.

Celestial spheres - did he mean ellipses?

Made of water? I'm a Carbon based life form, don't know about you.

Muslims believe we were made from a handful of dirt like the worst christian fundies - that would make us Silcon based.

Why must we refute everything? Its like fighting the hydra - why can't it die from its many wounds... oh right, I forgot because ignorant people are taught everyday that religious is flawless and there is no evidence against it.

just to fill you in - there are no mistakes in the Bible only misunderstanding and wrong interpretation
Light before the sun is not a mistake
light is goodness, justice, truth..... - the Lord says walk in the Light - do you think He means sun light - no that is a way of living

see how misunderstanding can cause confussion

The very problem is that it doesn't matter what science discovers, does it? If science discovered events that were completely against genesis, 1 of 2 things would happen. 1) you will change what genesis was "really tryign to say" or 2) you will simply say, god is all powerful he can do anything.

The answer to your question is as atheists, we use science. Compared to the bible.......HAHAHAHAHA
