do you adopt the secular world view and look for physical causes of the disaster, or do you adopt the Biblical view that they are punishments sent by 'God' because someone had impure thoughts or some other unrelated nonsense?

We know that satan is responsible for anything bad that happens GOD has never done anything to harm anyone. The evil of this world is of satan's doing. Even the impure thoughts that you have at this time came from him attempting to get a Christian to have similar feelings. This is a rediculous thought. Christians know that "GOD so loved the world that HE gave HIS only begotten SON." I have no doubt in my mind that you are not even asking this question out of a caring heart. If you did, you certainly would never have asked it in the manner that you did. Have a great day... GOD loves you and I do too.

Many people blamed the earth quakes and tidal waves on God, but common sense tells us if we build on the sea shore we are taking a risk of this happening to us. There have always been earthquakes and tidal waves. But because of our need to have all the best places we ignore the dangers.

(James 1:13) 13 When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. gemhandy@hotmail.com
