Are you in grade school? I hear "Can I give up vegetables for Lent?" or "Can I give up homework for Lent?" all the time from them.

The purpose of giving something up for Lent is to unite ourselves with the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ - He gave up His LIFE for us.

Giving something up for Lent also helps us become more aware of the things we do out of habit in this life. Others give up a bad or annoying habit at this time of year as a step towards giving it up entirely.
