shouldn't you stay on the line and explain the wrong number rather than letting the poor soul jump out of the shower and wonder what important or emergency call they just missed?

I always stay on the line even if I know that I dialed the wrong number. I just say "Sorry, I've got the wrong number."
People are so paranoid these days that they'll *69 your number or check that caller ID and call you back and accuse you of screwing around with their husband.
I should know. It's happened to me when I used to just hang up...

No, then they would have completely gotten out of the shower to answer the phone just to find out that it is a wrong number. I would have been more upset than if you just hung up after a couple rings. My philosophy is, if it's important, you'll leave a message or call back.

Why do you jump out of the shower when the phone rings? They can leave a message if it's something important. Don't let the phone run your life.

I don't jump out of the shower or off the can for anyone. If people are willing to go to such an extreme, they should get a cell phone or check their caller ID

If its really important, they'll call back. Otherwise, hop back into the shower and don't worry about it.
