Whoever gave you antibiotics should be shot. Unless there are any obvious signs of a bacterial infection such as the white spots of a strep infection, antibioitcs should not be perscribed. Most sore throat infections are due to viruses and so antibiotics won't work. Just get some bed rest, and try some old wives remedies such as honey and lemon dissolved in hot water.

Antibiotics have to be taken in series to be effective, usually for 10-14 days. You can't just "try a few" and expect results. All you're doing by not completing the series is letting the bacteria it is supposed to fight build up a resistance to the antibiotics.
If your sore throat has been going on for more than 2 days, go see a doctor. If it is caused by Strep and is not treated, it can lead to some very significant problem, including cardiac complications.

Unless a bacteria is causing your sore throat antibiotics won't help. I cannot believe a doc would try several antibiotics for a sore throat without doing a throat culture to see if you even have an infection. This is very very poor medical practice to prescribe antibiotics without doing a culture. Go back to the doc and insist that he do a throat culture to rule out any disease causing your sore throat. Do not let him keep giving you more antibiotics unless a bacterial infection shows up on your culture.

Do not go on 'trying' antibiotics. It will lead to the development of resistance. An antibiotic should only be taken if sore throat is streptococcal. In that case, the throat and tonsils will be 'angry red' or 'fiery red'. There may be visible pus or a membrane. The lymph glands in front of the throat will be enlarged. There will be high grade fever. In that case, an antibiotic will lead to improvement in the condition within 48 hours, and should be continued for 10 days to prevent rheumatic fever. Most sore throats are viral and antibiotics do not act on them.
Gargle with salt water. Drink chicken soup, green tea, ginger and lemon tea. 'Joshanda' also helps.

It's because whatever is wrong with your throat is resistant to the antibiotics or is caused by a virus, which antibiotics don't work on.
