Free Lossless Audio Codec.

It's a music file, like an MP3, but with better sound quality.

A FLAC file is an audio file, like MP3s or WMA files which you may have come across before. However, unlike MP3, FLAC, which stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec, is not lossy, meaning that when you create a FLAC file all the detail is retained, whereas creating an MP3 intelligently gets rid of bits of the file to make it smaller. That means that FLAC files are considerably larger than their MP3 counterparts.
