The police want to establish a command presence to dominate the scene. Generally they ramp up their "attitude" You give attitude, you get attitude.

well I have never once gotten a ticket and am rarely pulled over and not one officer has ever been rude to me

(I always buckle up and never drive even one mile over the speed limit... the term 'road rage' does not apply to me)

BUT i have dated cops and I'll tell you.... they are afraid for their lives.

Cops get killed daily. Everyone is a possible criminal.

A trooper I dated once said he pulled over some clean cut looking guy for speeding and he happened to notice a flash of metal... the guy had drugs on him and was going to shoot the cop... over a speeding ticket... he hadn't even planned to search his car for anything illegal... was just trying to give the guy a TICKET and he could have gotten KILLED!!!!!!

Kind of a serious job, needs a serious attitude to go with it.

Cops are great, when you need one.

Usually cops won't be "rude" to you unless you have an attitude, though there are exceptions.

They are trained to maintain their composure. Besides, being "rude" to people just for the hell of it isn't in their best interests. For all he knows, you could be related to some judge or politician and he would get in trouble. Or he might provoke you into a fight where he could get hurt.

I've rarely had a police officer be rude or mean to me. If you are breaking the law...i wouldn't expect them to be overly polite. However I always make sure I am respectful and do exactly as I'm told.

Cops have a nasty nasty job, they rarely meet "nice" people and deaing with the complete jerks that they normally deal with makes them blunt, cold and sometimes downright RUDE. I don't like it either, but I understand where it comes from. There isn't enough money in the world to get me to do a cops job and I often wonder why anyone would want to do that.

If the cop is a fair one, s/he is probably just irked that you did something dumb and/or illegal. Make the best of it by not getting emotional and cooperating.
