My son was walking around furniture at 7 months, but actually took off and started walking was 9months and four days. Early.
Most kids can walk by their first birthday, but some are up to a year and a half.
Don't sweat it if your kid hasn't started yet..like with everything else, they all develop in their own time. :)
Cheers!

Each child is different, as development varies. Average age is around 12 months, but up to the age of 18 months is also okay. My first son walked at 9 months and my second son at 15 months - both very different. Below is a great web site about stages of development for your baby/toddler.

All 5 of my children were walking competently by their first birthday.
Number 2 was the earliest, at 10 months, and number 3 was the latest at 11 months.

Eldest walked at 10 months and we were shocked he just let go his walker and walked to the telly there was a video of the spice girls on top of the pops.
His brother was almost 2 and didn't crawl until after a year old ,he just shuffled around on his bum.

My daughter walked at 16 mo. My son at 9 mo. I was so horribly concerned about my daughter not walking and a lady at the dr.s one day said something to me I'll NEVER forget....and I've passed it on quite a few times. She said " you don't see 12 yr olds crawling around do you, she'll walk when she's ready" and from then on I never worried!!
If you ARE concerned talk to your childrens dr.
