I just went to ebay and they have xp office programs very reasonable. which one do I buy (for my spouse) (I don't know one program from another) that will make this xp legal and have the ability to upgrade and etc. etc.
I want word, exel, etc. as I do a lot of work on my computer.

The vast majority are illegal copies, easy to make and quite possibly loaded with nasties such as spyware and keyloggers. I'd avoid buying any software off eBay if you want legal non-pirated versions.

office xp came out in 2001 it is still very good program as long as it has a COA from Microsoft you are looking at should be able to be upgrade to a newer version this version is still being used in the current office industry

Buying Microsoft Office will not make your xp operating system legal, they are separate programs. However if you want to buy office I would recommend Office 2003. It will include the programs you mentioned.

Please, for the sake of a few dollars, buy XP from a reputable source where you will get support and updates, a legitimate CD with a product key.
