Whenever I am with people who are "achievers," I think I can't measure up. I always think of not measuring up, and when I do projects (such as doing PR write ups, and the like), I find myself shaking and having my mind go blank. Furthermore, I don't like going out with people much (because, I am a bit anti-social... I don't like little niceties). I like to stay home, and just read a good book or watch a movie or two. I don't know what else to do. I don't want to be forever tongue tied. Most especially if I'm with someone I like.

you don't have the self confidence, go hang out with some good buddies, and don't think of these 'achievers' as achievers but the same as you, that you two are on equal par. you must start to build up the self confidence in yourself and not be afraid to make mistakes. so what if you don't perform as well as other people, relax when you're with others. the person you like might not actually be an achiever whether you know it or not, so just treat everyone as your equal, and things would turn out better for you as you get used to the environment.

There is nothing odd about the way you feel, my Husband of 12 years is the same. He is painfully shy and was very nervous when we first got together. He is very quiet and prefers to be at home left alone. Just keep being yourself.....

It's not a self esteem problem...you just enjoy yourself more than other people.

Seek counseling, it helps. And do something for YOURSELF to build your self-esteem.
