Normally, Windows will tell you that the serial # has been installed too many times. They will also provide you with a phone number. Call it, and explain to Microsoft (their tech support is in India) about your situation...that it came with a machine, etc....and they should issue you the info you need. It's a long series of numbers...but then, you'll be good to go.

well if your xp is original you should have got a license for windows xp that came with the computer. If you do not have this chances are that you are using a illegal version. Usually a smaller sticker is stuck on the side of the CPU. check that out too if that is not there contact the people you bought the computer from!

If this is the exact same PC on which XP was installed (or "bundled") you should contact the seller. If, when you got the PC repaired, you did not make major changes, the seller should allow you to download or repair. If you made major changes, Windows thinks you are trying to install on a second computer.

Get out the CD, have the product key handy, sales receipt, anything you have, then contact the seller.

Can you contact the person or place where you purchased this computer? They should have included the license for the software on your computer with the paperwork you recieved at that time. If not you will have to contact them to get it. Good Luck.

Before you spend any money do try UBUNTU. It's easy to install and use.

If your computer has 256MB of RAM get a full version. If less, get XUBUNTU.
