Poodles are the best! We had ours for 17-1/2 amazing years -- I often said that if there is such a thing as reincarnation, please let me come back as her!! She was treated like a queen, but deservedly so since she was really a very good dog. I miss her so much ...

I've had 4 poodles in my lifetime. The first one lived to almost 17, the second one lived to 14, the third one lived to 14 but he was very sick over the last two years of his life. He had cushions disease, diabetes, cancer, etc. I was at the Vets every week and I wouldn't recommend anybody do that unless you are financially wealthy. The poodle I have now is 5 years old and so far is very healthy. I'm not too fond of his personality, even though I still love him. He bit my nose last October just because I was sick and pushed him away from my face when he was trying to be affectionate. I don't know anybody who has had a poodle that didn't live at least 10 years.

My poodle died last year and it was 16. I have one that is 7 now and one that was born in September. I think 12-14 is probably closer to the normal age life span for a toy poodle.

My family got a toy poodle when I was about three, he was not well behaved so we gave him to this sweet (Cough cough) little old lady, might I add who was a dog trainer and she said she'd whip our dog into shape. Two months later we got a phone call from her and she said we could have our dog back. My dad said she could put it to sleep because he didn't want to pay for that and come on, the dog was hers! Anyway. The toy poodle can live up to 14.4 years at average. Maybe you'll get a good dog, you never know how old your dog is going to get, he/she may live up to be 15-17. All wishes for your dog!

Like a lot of stretched hybrids longevity does not run in the poodle breeds perhaps 10 to 12 years

It is my understanding smaller breeds tend to live a few years longer than bigger breeds>
It believe it mostly has to do with environment. Regular exercise and good diet, (genes)... healthier vibrant life. 10 years is a good life.
My personal experience with toy poodles lived 12 years. ((Last 1 year her age showed.))

smaller dogs live longer. toys in the 5- 25lb range should live to be about 15-18 years of age. if it hadn't been for a tumor my 12 year old mutt at 146lbs would have lived longer.

smaller dogs tend to live much longer than large ones. i'd say 12-16 is more likely a range. i had a poodle mix who lived to be 14. feed them good quality kibble and make sure they see a vet regularly and they should live a nice long life!
