Traditionally a year. But we're living in the 21st century, and they often last longer or are short. Some may be engaged forever, others a few years, others a few months. Every couple is different, and if you both are sure and feel the same, a shorter engagement is fine. Follow your heart, it will always be true to you. Your brain tells you the practical answer, but your brain can't control your heart........

It depends on the two of you. Most people are engaged for a year to two years before marrying , to make sure they're compatable...and to save for a wedding. There is no set normal length of time .......but getting engaged then getting married in the next couple of months wouldn't be my cup of tea....It really depends on the two of you*~ But I would say a year to two years*~ BEST WISHES

What is "normal" anyway? What works for someone else may not work for you, and vise versa. My fiance and I were dating only 4 months before we got engaged. We got engaged this past Christmas Eve and our wedding is this September, so that's 9 months. It normally takes a year to get everything planned - depending on the type of wedding you want. Most likely your fiancee will take care of those details - so don't worry too much about it. Congrats and good luck.

Depends on your situation...
For example if you have been going out for a long time and everyone kind of expects that you would get married, then the wait might be not too long.
If you just met, and you have to learn more about one another, I would say a year. This would give you a chance to live together and prepare mentally your families!

It depends on the couple...I think the regular time is about a year, but only cos things take time to plan! I know someone who got engaged and married within 6 weeks!Good luck :)

No normal length..it depends on YOU! My FIRST marriage, we were together 8 months and 10 days before we were married...(that's why it's the FIRST MARRIAGE). My new guy and I have been together for 6 years....engaged for 4...still not married. It's just not the right time for us. So actually it all depends on you and her....how does SHE feel about it!?

Good luck!

It would only seem appropriate to be engaged for a minimum of 6 months. However, other factors should apply, How long have you known each other? How long have you been a couple? What kind of wedding do you wish to have? Is their a terminally ill family member that you would like at your wedding but if you prolong the date they will be dead?

well it's usually really short now days but you should really wait a couple of years. By then her real personality should have come out. Then you can see if you really want to be with her. Getting married is a big thing. Unlike asking someone out.
