The sternum is the small flat bone situated between the top ribs - it is also refered to as the breast bone. The muscles laying over these bones is the pectoralis major which aducts and rotates the arm. Underneath the major is the pectoralis minor which action is to draw the shoulders down and forwards, and the Serratus anterior which is at the sides of the ribcage just below the armpit.
