Shouldn't be too tough. Do normal genealogy research for the last 200 years and you'll find him. The fact that you're Baptist now is less relevent than the fact that your ancestors were Mormon and found genealogy to be a very special and necessary part of doing God's work. The nice part is finding out that QB Steve Young is your cousin :D
Talk to the older members of your family to find out who your grandparents, great-grandparents, etc were and where they lived. Find the records on them and keep researching. Use the http://www.familysearch.org website and I'm sure you'll link into known research shortly.

Hey Geography Project,
Research is research, what religion you are should not matter. The LDS Family Search site is pretty good, but for the President of the church, I suspect they have special documentation. BYU will have excellent information about him. The internet has so much information about him, you will be able to learn quite a bit.
You can even research his family via the LDS Family Search site.
"Polygamy, or the principle of plural marriage, was first introduced by Joseph Smith to a few associates in the Spring of 1841. Quietly, hesitatingly, in private conversations with each apostle, Joseph explained that he now believed plural marriage to be a divine requirement. Brigham Young later described his emotions on first learning about plural marriage:
"Some of these my brethern know what my feelings were at the time Joseph revealed the doctrine; I was not desirous of shrinking from any duty, nor of failing in the least to do as I was commanded, but it was the first time in my life that I had desired the grave, and I could hardly get over it for a long time. And when I saw a funeral, I felt to envy the corpse its situation, and to regret that I was not in the coffin, knowing the toil and labor that my body would have to undergo; and I have had to examine myself, from that day to this, and watch my faith, and carefully meditate, lest I should be found desiring the grave more than I ought to do."
