Well, first you have to really want to do it but other than that. Try only going to grocery store when you have just eaten and are full. Make a point not to keep change with you when you go to work or out to an event. This will help stop you from impulse buying something from a vending machine. Nothing good ever comes from a vending machine. Find a walking or workout friend that you enjoy spending time with. This will make walking or working out something you look forward to not dread.

First get your thyroid profile and serum sodium levels checked to rule out metabolic syndrome and water retention respectively. Then switch to a low fat diet with lots of fiber so that the absorption of calories comes down. Wihout malnutrition and any other side effects you will reduce your weight gradually. Atkins and similar low-carb diets are faster but there are concerns about the after effects over long run.

Weightwatchers has been recommended by some people as a long term weight management plan. Look around and try what suits you.

Combine this with exercise both aerobic and muscle building since muscle consumes more energy than the same mass of fat.

Best wishes to you.
