1. Inhibiting the enzyme, catechol O-methyltransferase (COMT), which is responsible for breaking down noreinephrine, thus increasing this neurotransmitter's life in the synaptic cleft.
2. Inhibiting phosphodiesterases, thus increasing the life of cyclic AMP (cAMP) in the cell.
Together, these effects heighten the impact of norepinephrine is
the neurotransmitter which plays a large role in the control of thermogenesis and fat oxidation for weight loss.

Green tea's ability to fight cancer is even more potent and varied than scientists suspected, research suggests. Scientists already know that green tea contains anti-oxidants which may have a protective effect against cancer.
But now they have discovered that chemicals in the tea also shut down a key molecule which can play a significant role in the development of cancer.
In Japan, high levels of stress and hypertension are not risk factors for heart attack and stroke. Salt isn’t either, and neither is smoking even though Japanese smoke more cigarettes than Americans. The reason is diet. Studies show that when Japanese adopt a Western diet, their risk of heart attack almost doubles, and Western risk factors then apply to them.
One of the protective factors in the Japanese diet is green tea. According to one study, drinking one or more cups of tea can almost halve the risk of heart attack. Green tea contains a much higher concentration of theanine than other teas. Theanine has been proven to lower blood pressure. It works through its GABA-enhancing effects. GABA lowers blood pressure.
Researchers at the University of Arizona tested 140 smokers to see if drinking tea reduces the risks of cancer. They examined whether tea repaired damage to cells caused by smoking. In particular, they looked at the affects on a chemical called 8-OhDG, which is found in urine and is believe to cause cell damage.
For four months, volunteers drank either green tea, black tea or water. "They were asked to eat whatever they were eating and just add tea to their diet," said Dr Iman Hakim, who headed the study. Researchers tested the participants' urine for levels of 8-OHdG. "What we found was a 25% decrease in the green tea group," she said. However, no changes were seen in the people who drank black tea or water. "We think green tea, in our group of smokers, is associated with a reduction of oxidative stress in their urine," Dr Hakim said.
The polyphenols found in Green Tea appear to block the formation of non-melanoma skin cancer, which strikes nearly 60,000 people each year.
Researchers studied mice with skin cancer from UV light exposure. The animals treated with a lotion rich in polyphenols had decreased levels of an enzyme associated with skin cancer.
