lol, children can find loopholes in everything, it's like little lawyers running around. It's our job to not leave any loopholes open.

Oh yeah! And I think it is a beautiful thing! It shows that their mind is working! We have a 3 items to bed rule. We started this with my first or she would have brought her entire toy and book collection to bed everynight. So, just after my third child turned two she came upstairs from the toy room with a tinker toy contraption, a book and a ziplock baggie of tinker toys. I took the baggie and said she couldn't sleep with that. I was willing to let the contraption go. She stomped her foot and said three things! 1,2,3! LOL. Ok, but you are not sleeping with a suffocation hazard. Even if they find a loophole, you are the parent and you are allowed to make amendments in the rules based on the intent of the rule (or their safety).
The children finding the loopholes not only shows that they are learning problem solving techniques, but allow you to assess why you instituted the rules you did, and sometimes make changes to the rules. Frequently assessing the rules and needs of your family is a good thing.

Absolutely they do, this is how we learn parenthood, and this is how children learn to grow up and prosper. If the child always followed all of the rules what lessons in life would have been learned? Just to foolow the rules at home. What about when they grow up and need to make their own rules? They might do things in a much different way because they did not learn the purpose of the ground rule. To live and learn is how we get our perspectives on life qualities, how we mature and prosper, develope personalities, and teach our own young. Did you follow all the rules to the exact point in which YOUR parent made them? Probably not, and this is why you grow up and know that asking others this question might help as a parent or gaurdian. GO you! GOodluck with your question and I hope that you eventually find what type of response that you have been looking for.

The Part Truth Xades, yes children can find loopholes in the rules, but don't hold it against them, remember they are in the lerning stages.Guide&council them to make the right choices, you have an oppertunity here use it.BUT above all keep reminding them you are the parent and what you lay down for them is good.

Loopholes? Whether or not there are any loopholes, your children should understand the intent of your rules. If they say, "Well, that's not what you said!", tell them that that answer isn't going to work, and punish them anyway. They know better.

Oh Yes!! It proves they are intelligent though which is a good thing. You do have to be firm and stick to your guns(most of the time). If you give in to their wishes too often they'll think they can always get away with it. Make sure the rules are fair and make sure they understand why you have rules. Good luck - sounds like you're going to need it!!!

Maybe not straight away, but they will eventually figure them out. Keep your rules plain and simple and stick to your guns. Letting them wriggle through a loophole once will only encourage them to do it more often.

Absolutely. Then they grow up to be lawyers or tax accountants. Never underestimate people's ability to be creative in getting around the rules. This starts at an early age.

Oh I'm sure of it, that's their job, they learn that while they are with other children. There is a special childrens training class where the other kids pull them aside and teach them things to ask, or do. (Just kidding of course) but it seems that way!
