I've been getting relaxers since October 06'. I have fairly long hair that seems to be in good condition, its shiny and smooth, I don't put any heat on it, no apparent split ends... I tend to get my hair relaxed every 8-12 weeks because I don't like the thought of over processing my hair. It grows pretty fast, so about three weeks after getting my hair permed there is about a half inch or so of new growth so I put it up in braids and wear a wig until my next perm. During this time I still wash and condition it, but I comb it much less. I'd been using Dark and Lovely no-lye perms, but I'm not too happy with the results, before that I used Gentle Treatment, not really into that one either... My question is, what no-lye relaxers do you recommend? Something I can do at home? Or should I just go to a professional?

Okay, I'm biracial also (white & black) & I relax my hair about every 2 - 3 months.
Don't wear a wig I'm sure the new growth isn't that bad; just pull it back into a ponytail or bun.
You are right about overprocessing so I wouldn't suggest that you relax it more often.
You could use a flat iron every now & then to make it a little less puffy & more managable.
And again I think the Olive Oil is the best relaxer. You can also buy the replishing conditioner on it's own for about $1 & it's enough for 2 washes.
Have often are you washing your hair; once every 2 weeks is probably good.

i like going to the salon and getting it done... simply because my hair is longer and i can't do it myself.... although i spend like $100 the perm lasts longer and come out better... also i go in every two weeks to get a deep conditioning and a wrap with maintains the straightness of my hair although my hair grows fast like yours. I usually get a relaxer every 3-4 months.
