George Carlin - On Religion

Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more.

Most people have heard of the saying, "Love makes the world go round." What most people are unfamiliar with is the second part: "Money greases the axle it turns on." It doesn't matter what organization/business your in, you gotta have money to keep the doors open. I'm not saying the money is or isn't used properly.

If a person is a Christian because he/she is afraid of hell fire and brimstone, they are not a Christian. Our relationship with Christ should be based on love not fear. We are commanded to know Jesus Christ, to understand the Atonement. We are told to keep the commandments, and when we make a mistake, repent. I would be wary of anyone preaching "Hellfire and brimstone."

I love George Carlin - I think he is hilarious. As a Christian am I offended? No way!

I think looking at God and religion from the outside, it probably does look like that. Imagine how funny most of what folks do in middle-class American looks to someone who may come from an impoverished region of the world.

Life can be funny, and kudos to those who can help us laugh at things every now and then.

Ah, I love George Carlin. I think he's hilarious, but some of what he says really has a point.

"...First thing the next morning, I became a sun-worshipper. Several reasons. First of all, I can see the sun, okay? Unlike some other gods I could mention, I can actually see the sun. I'm big on that. If I can see something, I don't know, it kind of helps the credibility along, you know? So everyday I can see the sun, as it gives me everything I need; heat, light, food, flowers in the park, reflections on the lake, an occasional skin cancer, but hey. At least there are no crucifixions, and we're not setting people on fire simply because they don't agree with us."

It's only George Carlin's rant on religious organizations. I agree with him in that so called "christians" go too far and over-exaggerate God's instructions to intimidate lost souls for monetary gain, usually for their own personal interests. Remember, it is George Carlin--it's what he does! Don't take it so seriously.

Religion is a flawed creation of man. Religion does NOT get you into heaven! Religion has been used by the ones in control for money and power as long as there has been organized religion. (Know this God has been watching very closely and I don't think he is pleased with most of the so called "Christian Leaders" of the world. If they would help others a little more often, instead of helping themselves to the offerings intended to spread the word of God, we as a nation and a planet would be alot better off! Only through FAITH in Christ can you gain eternal life with God the father in Heaven (the guy who created everything you fathom in your perception of reality)

George Carlin is funny. Just a little hard to base your life on, though. This is from the 70's!

I think George Carlin was, and is, an unfunny Lenny Bruce immitator without the intellect, or edge, that Bruce had. I've seen his stand up live...it was awful.

He is jealous. Carlin was always just a fool. Any one that takes the word of the court jester above the word of the king is in for trouble.

George Carlin is just what he is, a fool.
