As far as I know you do not have to muzzle Great Danes in any country.
The ettiquete with dogs in other European countries is pretty similar to the UK. Just obey any signs you see. Some countries may have parks where dogs are not allowed, or where they must be kept on a lead.
I'm sure you have got all the other details about taking your dogs abroad, but have a look at http://www.gettingoutofhere.co.uk/pets.htm for information.

Different countries have different rules for how dogs are transported in a car. Some do not allow dogs to be free ie they have to be behind a dog guard or in a crate, others, you are not allowed to have a dog restricting the rear window view (which would be a problem with Danes! Others - I think Italy- there are laws about leaving unattended dogs in cars. Sorry, I haven't got a site for these, I read it in a caravanning mag. a few years ago, but you do need to check before you go.

In Italy, for dogs when inside local places (pubs, etc) or when in train, buses, etc both muzzle and leash are mandatory (new rules came out just a month ago); leash *or* muzzle on the street; no leash and no muzzle is allowed in green placesm like public parks. Of course you must keep watch them.
You can bring your dogs on your car with no restrain (art.169 Codice Stradale) although a grid is recommendable. Important is they should not pose as obstacle or danger for the driver.
For some breeds considered dangerous, muzzle and leash are always mandatory, but danes are not on that list.

I don't think you'd need to muzzle them unless they are a threat to people, then only if they are out of the car. Keep them on leash when walking them. The only other thing I imagine you'll need is an international health certificate from the vet saying they are healthy enough to travel (free of parasites and diseases, current on shots). In France and Germany dogs go all over with owners, if they are well behaved they even go into a lot of restaurants.

Italy used to have a muzzle law, but it was dropped about 10 years ago.
The best thing for you to do is contact the consulates for each of the countries you will be visiting to find out the local laws in each country.
