Not washing hands can spread disease in general. As other have said in one way or the other, it is dirty business to not wash, your health and that of others is at stake.

It's not okay. Why? The obvious reason is health. I live outside of the US and most people don't wash their hands after going to the loo--should I mention how often kids stay home sick? Ok, maybe we don't get that many germs in the bathroom, but hey, that's not the only place that has them. In fact, they're all around us. Washing our hands after going to the bathroom is a good time (I mean the sink, soap, towels/automatic dryers are right there) to get rid of any germs we may have, regardless of where we got them.
But besides that, I find that, when I see kids at school not washing their hands after using the WC, I don't want them to touch me or my stuff.

It's not a question of etiquette, it's a question of hygiene. ;)
If you stick your hand under a microscope you'll never want to remove it from under the tap, because there are that many germs in it. Even if you go to the loo or not, you have to keep washing your hands regularly. Just think of all the door handles you HAVE touched and think of OTHER people who have touched it after coming in contact with pretty nasty stuff.

You should wash your hands anytime you can after touching things that are used by the public or even after touching your own body.
Interestingly enough, I read an article a while back saying that the average number of germs per square inch are higher on the normal work desk then on a toilet seat.
Think about that.....

No it's not ok, it's disgusting! You may think you are clean, but after just a few hours bacteria can form around your genetils and anus.
Despite the proven health benefits of hand washing, many people don't practice this habit as often as they should — even after using the bathroom. Throughout the day you accumulate germs on your hands from a variety of sources, such as direct contact with people, contaminated surfaces, foods, even animals and animal waste. If you don't wash your hands frequently enough, you can infect yourself with these germs by touching your eyes, nose or mouth. And you can spread these germs to others by touching them or by touching surfaces that they also touch, such as doorknobs.
Infectious diseases commonly spread through hand-to-hand contact include the common cold, flu and several gastrointestinal disorders, such as infectious diarrhea. While most people will get over a cold, the flu is much more serious. Some people with the flu, particularly older adults and people with chronic medical problems, can develop pneumonia. The combination of the flu and pneumonia, in fact, is the seventh leading cause of death among Americans.
Inadequate hand hygiene also contributes to food-related illnesses, such as salmonella and E. coli infection. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as many as 76 million Americans contract a food-borne illness each year. Of these, about 5,000 die as a result of their illness. Others experience the annoying symptoms of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

No - it's dirty! Even if you don't touch the door handle think what else you've been touching! Hands need to be cleaned after going to the toilet! If you cannot wash them get some of that cleaning gel stuff and use that. Germs will be passed around where ever you go and to what ever you touch. NASTY NASTY NASTY. Soap dodgers aren't good!

The fact that this question has even been asked is exactly why I never eat "community food". Chips, nuts, anything a person digs their hand in to get some... I never touch it.
Always wash your hands.

I always wash my hands after going to the loo, it's not only your germs, but who else that went before, and touched the flusher, and the toilet roll. You would'nt want someone to go to the loo, not wash their hands, then make you a sandwich.....guess not.

I consistently do and so does my husband.
