Preventing stomach bugs and upsets is impossible, it can't be done but you can go a long way towards limiting the amount of bugs and upset stomachs we have by properer hygiene.
Always wash your hands after going to the toilet and before preparing or handling food (YOU WILL BE AMAZED HOW MANY PEOPLE DON'T ACTUALLY DO THIS).
Also personal hygiene such as regular baths or showers will help.
Also being aware of where germs can easily be picked up, such as door handle, doors, other people etc, will help.
Most importantly don't let this ruin your life by being obsessed by it. Just live life and be happy.

1. Stay away from children. Man, I get literally twice to three times as many sicknesses now that we have two small children. Ugh... they incubate all the most popular diseases and spread 'em through the family.

2. If you're like me, you have to be careful about rubbing your eyes and scratching you nose and other things like that. Always assume your hands are dirty. Wash them a lot.

3. Avoid enclosed spaces with lots of people and with little ventilation. Busses, planes, waiting rooms, etc... that's the most most likely place for airborne viruses to be passed on.

4. Wash your hands, first thing, when you get home from work or anywhere else.

5. Stop kissing homeless panhandlers. Oh wait... nevermind... uh.. you didn't hear that...

Thoroughly wash your hands with soap for at least 30 seconds when you get home from being out. Wash hands again before preparing any food and again if you touch raw meat. Always wash hands thoroughly after going to the toliet....especially public ones and ones that aren't yours! Also after touching animals, being in the garden etc.

In the kitchen
Use separate chopping boards for meat and vegetables etc.
Thouroughly wash containers/chopping boards/knives. surfaces which have had raw meat with hot soapy water. Spray with an antibacterial spray.

I make my kids wash their hands the second they get in from school and before every meal. So far this has meant we have had two years stomach bug free after repeted infections previously.

Hope this helps!
