When you're crucified your lungs fill up with fluid over time, which essentially means you suffocate or drown whichever way you want to look at it. He probably succumbed to death quicker than most because of the abuse he supposedly suffered prior to crucifixion.
And to clear up a few things I see in other posts:
1 People were nailed through the wrists not the hands, the hands are incapable of bearing the bodies weight and even if tied to the cross the nails would eventually rip through.
2 The spear was in no way responsible for his death, this was a regular occurance and the spear was driven into the lung and is more to verify death than cause it,the fluid coming out is the aforementioned fluid in the lungs combined with blood since blood is constantly going through tissues of the lungs.

Obviously, when you are crucified, you bleed a lot. He was nailed(at the middle of His hands and his feet). So since He, as the Word became flesh, he was human as we are. So, He died at 3 o'clock because of bleeding (starting from when He carried His cross until He was crucified and then what's worse was that a soldier thrust his spear onto Jesus to check if He is truly dead). Just read the Bible for more information.

Hi, The death of Jesus is recorded fully in the Gospels and the strange thing is that few really understand that He actually gave up His spirit(life) to God,and this should never be mistaken for suicide as some would have it, He said Himself that it was in His power to lay down His life and to take it up again, this is one reason why Jesus really was fully human but also fully divine.
The human aspect of His crucifixion was related to severe exhaustion and asphyxiation.

The Qur'an rejects the doctrine of Crucifixion. Jesus (Peace be upon him) was not crucified but was raised to heaven. It was certainly the plan of his enemies to put him to death on the cross, but God saved him and someone else was crucified. The Holy Qur’an is clear on this:
“That they said (in boast), “We killed Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah”, but they killed him not, nor crucified him. Only a likeness of that was shown to them. And those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge. But only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not: -Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, wise; - And there is none of the People of the Book but must believe in him before his death; and on the Day of Judgment he will be a witness against them.” (An-Nissa, 4:157-159, The Qur’an).
People of the Book refers to Jews and Christians who received early Scriptures of God through their respective Prophets.

When a person hung on a cross, death came by suffocation, but the victim could push against the cross with his legs to hold up his body and keep breathing.

I have heard it reported that it was exhaustion from trying to breath, but also heard that it was congestive heart failure.
When the soldier stabbed the spear into Chist's side, blood mingled with water poured out. His heart would have had to have been ripped open.
Literally, I would say He died of a broken heart.

It is presumed that died of a stab wound. A Roman soldier was blamed to have stabbed Jesus with a spear.

His heart basically exploded. When that happened with Roman crucifixions, blood would pool in the area that was said to have been pierced with the spear.
