Yes, I phoned them and refused to get off the phone till they agreed to (They aren't allowed to hang up on you). Alternatively just make a scene at the local branch. I got £600 back so it's worth it!

Hi,
The anwer is yes.
Mr. Barclay once, some time ago, tried to charge me £20 for going £2 over the agreed overdaft for one day on a current account with them.
The deposit account alongside it was full of money that they "borrowed" from me. Twits.
I rang them up to point out that this was rediculous, being a very long-standing customer, etc., and the charge was instantly waived.

Quite right too !

Keep the bu**ers on their toes.
All the best with the system......

Oh PS,
I withdrew £20 from an ATM, then thinking it may not cover my bit of shopping, immediatly withdrew another £20
It transpired that this all occured in the same minute, so appeared as a "double entry" on the computerised statement.
I pointed this "error" out to them, forgetting what I had done, and was refunded £20.
I was mistakenly in the wrong, but a result nevertheless !
Clawed a bit back, why not ?
The interest rates are cr*p, anyway.

Yes - All £575.00 of it.

They will send you the obligatory "We told you about these charges when you signed up etc etc" Just call them on the number on the letter - this will take AGES to get through. Then tell them you are not arguing there should be a charge - what you are saying is they are disproportionate and ask them to reopen the case.

This is what I did - 2 weeks later they sent a letter back saying I culd have the money back. However, they don;t admit any fault and the letter itself is quite funny - but I got it back in the end.

Just keep on to them - It is afterall; Your money!

Yes. I rang them up and told them it was ridiculous that they charged me £30 for being overdrawn when I had a surplus sweep account that was supposed to transfer funds from my savings account when my current account was low. They refunded it straight away.
There are some interesting articles on the BBC website you should read for advice on claiming your charges back, here are the links:
