My 2 year old has been so ill with a flu bug this week! I gave him calpol when he was at the height of a temperature & at the point of almost flaking out..... He went MENTAL !!!! Hr was tearing up the hallway, throwing everything in sight & screaming! Know how you feel! Was sugar free too So I think it's the colourings... I used to do that on pink medicine as a kid ...... try nurofen junior ... I have 5 kids & it's the best stuff ever! xxx

Even thought calpol is sugar free it has colourings in it which children can react to. I prefer to use medised which like calpol is paracetamol based but also contains an antihistamine and can cause drowsiness. x x

I have in the nursery I manage - some children can have a adverse reaction to it - even the sugar free one.
If you notice this - there are other things on the market that do the same job - there is a homeopathic version of calpol (think its orange flavoured) and obviously a variety of different flavoured paracetomal based medicines. Medised is also a good one to try.
Speak to your GP who may prescribe you a non-coloured medicine.

Not Calpol, it could be the colouring that could be the problem. My daughter reacts to cough and congestion medicine. She gets extremely hyperactive, and a real handfull.

i too found calpol to make my son go hyperactive and have no effect on any illness he has had, nurofen for children is much better it does the trick.
