wont come out of hiding, has not used her litter box since Saturday morning when we brought her home. Should I notify the APL where she came from? Also did I make a mistake forcing her out of hiding last night? I was going to show her the food & water bowl but, she scratched the snott out of me (drew blood). Does she hate me now?

I just adopted a cat on Saturday as well, she is 7. And she is in hiding as well. She just comes out at night to eat, drink, and go to the bathroom. Everyone has told me it just takes them time to adjust. Leave them be and they will come out on their own. Good luck!!

It's normal for cats to be very timid when adopted. Don't fret. When we adopted our cat he just wanted to hide on our refrigerator. Lol. I suggest a couple of things: - Keep him a a room where he can be kept to himself, quiet where no one will disturb him. A bedroom would be good. - Put some food and water down in an obvious place so he knows where it is. Also, is it the same food he ate at the shelter? - Put some blankets down, pillows and sort of make a 'nest'. I know cats well, anything fluffy is really comforting. Also, putting a blankets over like a tent or cave is really comforting for them. Good luck, and if he still doesn't warm up, I would try calling the shelter and ask for their advice.

I suggest you to give the cat some space. It is scared and needs time to adjust. If the cat doesn't eat, drink or potty for a week I would definitely take him/her to the vet. I agree with putting the liter box and food nearby.

You could also try (without getting scratched to death!) to put the kitty in the bathroom, give him/her a nice warm blanket or pillow to lay on. Don't forget the food water and litter box though.

Felicia

She doesn't hate you, she's just scared.
Try putting her food, water, litter box and some toys in the room that she's hiding in...she feels safe in there.

Don't try to force her, she'll come around in her own time.
Go into the room often, but don't talk to her or make any moves towards her, just let her know that you're in there...she'll come out of hiding to check you out when she's ready.
You can't make a cat do anything on your timetable.

Good luck, she'll come around in time.

she is scared....that's all..do u have other pets? that can make matters worst...when we will be get in a new cat soon as well but i have always crated them for the first week that way they can get use to all the new animal friends..2 dogs and another cat. if u can't do that its fine but i would put everything a bit closer to her...and try to play with her quietly like with a shoe lace or something that is not noisy as noise may freak her out... cats take longer to adjust to a new home compared to a dog. if she don't want petted that's fine to u just need to sit still w some time she'll come around.

where ever she came from she was mentally hurt. she does not hate you she just isn't used to her surroundings yet. yeah you should definitely contact the APL where she came from. they should be able to help her. that is a good thing that you were trying to show her where her food and litter box was. if she does get soo hungry shell know where it is then. maybe something bad is wrong with her. just dont force her too much. i know she doesn't hate you though. good luck i hope she becomes a nicer and a normal cat.

If your child was not eating for a few days would you be alarmed? Yes, I would contact the people you adopted her from for any advice.
It is very stressful for cats to go through any changes and stress can cause them to get sick. The best thing you can do for your cat is to take them to the vet immediately.
When you bring a new kitty home you should put them in a small room or pen at first so they could slowly get used to their new surroundings.
Buy some Feliway and/or Rescue Remedy to use to help alleviate the stress and keep them calm.

no she does not hate you..she is just really scared and nervous about her new surrounding..it is natural for any animal to stay hidden if scared and it is also very true that animals will stay hidden if they are sick too..they do not want to let their prey know that they are ill making them an easy catch...you really need to take your cat to the vet just to make sure it is only jitters and not a serious illness...and forcing a cat out of a place it feels is a safe place hec with any animal will cause some scratches and claw marks....it is not 4 days that your cat is acting this way you dont want to wait any longer..i know that may cause time and moulah but it is worth it if you plan on having this cat for a long long time..

She just needs to adjust to her new house. My cat hid and wouldn't eat or drink for the first day or so. Let the cat hide until she is comfortable. Don't force her out of hiding. She'll come out when she's ready. She doesn't hate you- she just didn't want to come out yet.

It will take her time, to come around, try feeding her some food tin tuna should do the trick, not to much thou, she may have a sensitive stomach put her water close. Then move them further away every day, until there in the place were there going to stay!

she maybe a little stressed out so try stroking her little bits at a time, she will soon learn your a friend not a enemy.

If she hasn't come around in a few days contact the home she came from they may give be able to give you more advice!

good luck i am sure she will come around.
