It could be a multitude of things. My initial thought was an upper respiratory infection. However, it could also be less minor things.

The best thing to do is consult a veterinarian. It's better to play is safe than risk the life of the kitten.

I wish you the best!

If you cat has never had a fur ball thats what it is. Go to you local store and buy some fur ball remedy or cat lax, or (if you have any at home) petroleum jelly will work. Just rubb a gum ball size evenly on the top of the cat's front paws, he/she'll lick it off and it will help your cat. We use it all the time for our cats when they cough. :D We did it for our dog (who cleans our cats) we thought he had heart worms, turned out, he neeed to have a hair ball. Stopped coughing after a week.

To prevent future instances of this, get some fresh grass from outside, give it to your cat, he'll eat it. Thats also another natural way to get rid of hairballs.

Could be any one of the things others have mentioned with the exception of bordetella which is a canine disease and not cat. It could also be distemper. I would take it to the vet right away. A kitten can die quite easily.

Could be a furball, bordatella, pasteurella...if it doesn't clear up or worsens over the next few days, or if there is nasal or eye discharge, recommend taking her to the vet.
