The numbers on a computer are opposite those of a calculator or phone because (believe it or not) IBM copyrighted the layout of the number pad on their early keypunch machines! That was at least back in the 50s - maybe earlier - but I remember learning it in one of my computer science classes. As a result, when touch-tone keypads came along, they had to use a different layout than the keypunch machines, and Ma Bell chose to reverse the layout.

The numbers on computers are the way they are because it makes sense. The numbers on phones are reversed so that 0 can be beside 9, because that is the way they were for technical reasons on rotary phones.

It has crossed my concepts in some unspecified time sooner or later. by using fact one time while i replaced into doing calculations, I saved hitting the incorrect numbers by using fact i'm used to a telephone. i think of it quite is by using fact the numbers a million & 0 are the main many times used numbers in calculations so they cause them to subsequently. :)
