You are doing the right things, TCP, Paracetomol etc....also one thing that works great is a salt water nose flush thing you can get from the Chemist. It's basically salt water in a bottle so you can always make a home-version, but you squirt it up your nose and it drains back through the sinuses and down your throat and flushes out all the bad bacteria. The same is also good if you gargle with salt water. While it is bad to take antibiotics it is also not good to leave Tonsilitis unchecked either - in the long term, it is not good to have the harmful bacterial infections in your body as it can damage heart tissues. Your Doctor should have taken this more seriously and at least explained her decision. Also, if your infection gets worse the tonsils can swell and obstruct breathing and then that's a trip to the hospital for intravenous antibiotics. So, all in all, her assessment was probably right , they are probably ok for now, but please keep an eye on them as there are consequences to leaving tonsilitis without treatment. Keep trying with salt water and taking also an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen to stop any swelling. Ice-cream is also great, as is yoghurt with good bacteria as this can help to fight the bad bacteria which is lurking in your throat! Keep a close eye on it though and if it isn't better in the next few days or if they start to swell a lot go back - or see another Doctor! Good luck! :)

If it's an NHS doctor they'll always talk you out of further treatment - unless you persist with the fact that it's really painful. When I was younger I had tonsilitus 5 times before they were going to remove them only if it came back one more time which it never did. i recommend saying you think you're going to die with the pain and get a second diagnosis. If you are not allergic to aspirin ,drop two soluble aspirins into a glass of boiled water and gargle once the temperature of the water has cooled to acceptable level . Repeat as required .Drink plenty of liquids in between times - tea is good as it contains tannic acid which is beneficial to sore throats.

this is foul but try garggling warm salt water for as long as possible, do this a few times a day, it should help a bit, failing that go for natural anasthetic alcohol.

the throat soreness might properly be eased with the help of gargling hexetidine (Bactidol). have her eat heat soup additionally. a docotr needs to work out the tonsils if its enlarged, hyperemic(purple) and exudative(with pus). if so, antibiotics like cephalexin is prescribed.
