1 spray bottle ($1 at Wal Mart in the mop/broom section)
1 bottle of white vinegar ($1 at Wal Mart in the grocery section)
1 cup of water (free!)
Mix 1 cup of water with 1/2 cup of vinegar in the spray bottle. Spray the walls and floors of where you tend to find the cat spraying. Spray the area twice a day. Once in the morning and once before bed. You should find that the cat will eventually leave due to the "odor." (If only they knew how bad their own urine odor was!!!)
It's been proven to work for many instances involving cats. It helps keep them off kitchen counters as well as trash cans and other areas you wish to keep them away from. The vinegar smell doesn't harm them at all.
If for some strange reason it doesn't work, you may need to call your local animal control officers and have them put out a trap. This way the cat isn't harmed and can possibly be put up for adoption... just hopefully not by your neighbor! ;-) lol
Good luck!

Pepper is not a good idea for it can hurt their nasal area. Citrus is a very good idea. But the best way is TNR (trap-neuter-return). That eliminates the spraying as well as fighting and more unwanted kittens being born.
Check with Alley Cat Allies for a place located near you that could help with trapping. In alot of cases the neutering is free for feral cats. And they will show you how to use the traps as well as lend them to you.

not sure what a good deterrant would be, but try pepper, as for getting rid of the smell, pour straight vinegar on it, after a few days the smell will be gone, you just have to put up with the vinegar smell, but hey whats better, cat smell or vinegar, glxx

my father used to put orange peels in and around the garden. we never had a problem with cats or rabbits. the rabbits would go to the peach tree instead. maybe you could get a dog. if these things don't work, you could call animal control.vinegar is also HATED by cats.

There are sprays you can use but you face the same problem - evaporation or rain/snow run off. Talk to the ASPCA and see if they or you can trap the cat. Put it up for adoption or relocate it elswhere.

there are safe sprays you can get from your local pet store! this is unusual as cats normally are very clean and dig up a bit of grass, do their business and then cover it up again!

this non toxic repellent will work,.... and does not hurt cat, other animals, or you.

Another thing to do would be to blow an air horn each time you see kitty on the steps, startling him.

This always works for me. I put orange and lemon rinds around were the cat pees. They hate the strong bitter smell of lemons. Dunno y they dnt like oranges. It works aswell for stopping any indoor cats scratching your furniture.
