Odd description of the Problem.....BUT.....
Some TVs have a built in DEMO MODE....and in the menu there is a DEMO MODE on/off selection....
I suspect someone was playing around in the MENU and accidently turned it ON.....
Yes, it will display the NAME Brand, and it will Mute the sound....
SOME of these Demo Modes are ACTIVATED by Pushing TWO BUTTONS ON THE FRONT PANEL TOGETHER FOR 8 to 10 Seconds...
So, if it's a Phillips/Magnavox TV try pressing the Volume Up AND Down Together for 8 to 10 seconds....
