Does anyone know where I can get an up-to-date accredited research study on the use of Methadone for cancer pain?
Im a Student Nurse, needing some info for an assignment. I do already have some good articles, but running out of ideas on where to find anymore.

Go to www.mariecurie.org.uk/staffroom and click on links on the left hand menu. You will get a list of specialist Cancer organisation which may have articles on this.
Good luck

My husband was taking Oxycontin which never touched his cancer pain at all, but when they changed it to Methadone the pain control was very good. You see every patient is unique and what works for one will not necessarily work the the next one. For the last year he used the same dose of Methadone, and a couple of extra in between on the rare occasions he had extra pain. This is called breakthrough.

Unfortunately my husband died last week.

I guess you have done about all the research possible on the internet. If I were you, I would go to a Cancer Center in your area and ask a doctor about his findings with this type of treatment. Other than that, maybe see if you can find some cancer patients that would be willing to talk to you about it. Hope you get what you need. Good luck.

f your patient is terminal the main objective is to make him or her as pain free as possible. However this is the first time i heard of methadone used for pain> it used to be morphine which is highly addictive. As far as research of Methadone, go to Medline and click on drugs then on Methadone> This will open alot of windows for the use, effects and alternatives to Meth

I don't know about accredited research but methadone is a great pain reliever and even though it's highly addictive when your in a critical condition it doesn't matter.

Have you tried contacting the McMillan nurses or the Marie curie Nurses, they work with terminally ill patients and administer methadone.
Try the Marie curie web site-www.mariecurie.org.uk or contact them Marie Curie Nursing Office-Lairg House-Chapel Street-Bicester-Oxon-0x26 6BD-TEL-01869-327013-Fax-01869-327014
Hope this helps and good luck with all your studying!
