Lent begins tomorrow and ends Easter Sunday

Smoking. The no smoking ban starts in July and I am hoping to quit for good this time through my lenten vow. I am going to miss the sticks, but for the sake of my health and the health of people around me, I have to give up.
With 40 days of no smoking, that's going to be a nice little sum of saved money to put in the lenten alms box at my local church!

What difference does it make? Lent is not a Christian observance. Coming from the Anglo-Saxon Lencten, meaning “spring,” Lent originated in the ancient Babylonian mystery religion. “The forty days’ abstinence of Lent was directly borrowed from the worshippers of the Babylonian goddess…Among the Pagans this Lent seems to have been an indispensable preliminary to the great annual festival in commemoration of the death and resurrection of Tammuz” (The Two Babylons).
God hates all pagan observances (Jer. 10:2-3; Lev. 18:3, 30; Deut. 7:1-5, 16). They cannot be “Christianized” or made clean by men. That includes Lent.

I plan to give up meat as I'm a real meat lover.
Although, what I should really make a point to give up are my faults: being critical of others, being impatient on the road and with my family members, being cross when things don't go my way and not being able to love my "enemies". Something I've been struggling with. I hope you'll have a truly meaningful Lent : )

Unfortunately nothing - I try every year and fail so I decided to give up nothing that way I won't feel a failure!
