Is it a peaceful religion and would you convert to it?

Personally, I think Islam is a peaceful religion but there are those radical muslims out there that are ruining it for the moderate muslims. The moderates should speak out against these radicals that use the religion as a way to justify these bombings and murders.

I have lived in the south of Thailand for the last 20 years and have 1st hand experience of what it is like to be terrorized, to be shot at, to be forced to leave our land, house and job behind. Now, no job, no house, no way to return to our land because it is no longer safe.... Is Islam a good religion? I ask you to read the Bangkok Post news paper for the 19th & 20th Feb 07 and make your our judgment. For me there are many good Muslims, but there are also many millions of them that are supporting the terrorist attacts.

It really is meant to be a peaceful religion, unfortunatlly some are misguided. I'm still learning a lot about Islam though, although I am a muslim because I already made the statement with all of my heart.

I think islam is as peacefull as any other religion. Fundametalism is the problem no matter if its islamic, jewish , christian ect. I still wouldnt convert to it because i dont think it would be any more spiritually satisfying for me the religion i was given as a child - and i have personally rejected that one as well. I m no atheist but i prefer to have a strictly personal relationship to god and the divine- i have rejected personal monotheistic religions and religious institutions generally.

Personally, I love my religion and would never say anything disrespectfully against it. I have learned about it and become educated about it. Excuse the clones, they don't like that I didn't give them what they want, so they resort to this childish and internationally illegal behavior. I love the way Islam protects women and gives them more rights than the men on most levels. For example, a woman has the right to work and do with her money as she so chooses. If she is a housewife it is not her duty to cook or clean. Children are to obey their mother above everyone else because, as the Quran says, she gave birth to them in weakness upon weakness and sacrifice so much from her own life just to bring them up. In the case of divorce, she has the right to full custody of the children and their father must still support them and her while having no part in their lives. It's a very feminine religion if you think about it from a nonbiased nonhatefilled point of view.

I love Islam. I am proud to be a muslim. It is a peaceful religion . It is just that there are crazy people in every religion that give every religion a bad name.

i lived with the muslim back then.
maybe some of them are peaceful, but from my experience some of them aren't.
just like other religions there's people who are too much in doing their religion and so does Islam.
what make me can't respect Islam totally because their moderates are too afraid to face the fanatics ones.
in country where i used to live, the minority suffer harrasment from the fanatics but none of the moderats stood up to defend them. i compare this to racism in america, when the klu klux klan rose, white people stood besides the blacks to fight this racists and they proved not all white people are racists.
but i don't see this kind of act from the muslim.

I'm sure that, when followed in a peaceful way, it's a peaceful religion (just like Christianity, and Judaism, and Hinduism, and every religion EVER.) However, I still wouldn't convert because it all sounds foolish to me (again, just like every other religion.)
