The couple's first baby was diagnosed as g6pd deficient when he sufferred neonatal jaundice within 24 hrs. of birth.His blood exchange transfusion was performed.That baby is a 10 yrs old child now and doing fine.The couple wishes another child but is not being able to decide if they should try for a second baby for the fear of going through that same trauma again. And also for the fear, what if something worse happens,say like bilirubin going to the brain or something fatal.....

Additional children should be no problem at all. My sister in law's first child was a boy and he died within three days from something like that. His numbers were at 8000 or something like that. He was brain damaged from it that first few hours and died soon after. They now have a 3 year old girl and an almost 2 year old boy. Both are normal and have no problems.

I would say consult the doctor and talk to someone who specializes in genetics. These people will be able to tell you what the chances are of this happening again and if it does has the treatment changed or remained the same. After you get more information you will have an easier time making a decision.
