The Christians are generally very confused...the is partly beacause they adjust their religion according to the times for convenience. And it is backfiring, because yes STD's are a punishment from God for not obeying his commands.

because they are drawing imaginary moral lines in the sand that differ from other Christians.
STDs will always exist, as long as people are f***ing each other. It is part of mother nature's toolbox of population control. In recent decades, human innovation has prevented massive outbreaks from killing millions of people, a naturally occuring measure neccessary for the survival of the entire planet (our species has already well exceeded the sustainable level of population globally, so it's only a matter of time before millions will begin to die annually, possibly billions in a period of a few decades)
When will people (not only Christian, but all religions) learn that there is no such thing as right and wrong? The people of the world are beginning to wake up to your controlling laws and realise we want to be able to define our own sense of conscience, develop it into a belief system we can honestly say is what works, relative to what is.
The idea that a book series first written centuries ago, and edited almost as many times as it's been printed, could offer divine answers on how society should be is blindly hopeful at best.
Man made God in his image, a comical character sitting in the sky with a white beard, a bolt of lightning for a staff, and a calming wisdom in his eyes who says "I made man in my image. You must worship me and be rewarded, or suffer in the firey pits of hell and damnation forever!"
and just to add the icing of hipocracy, He then claims he is ultimately fair and just, and that we humans have the free will to do as we choose.

Have you ever had an orgasm? It is the ultimate. Maybe close to Godliness.
Why is sex a sin? Hmmm, a man and a woman get together and they get this awesome feeling.
So , it's Human Nature. There is no God out there that is going to keep me from that particular experience. It's enjoyable to the inth degree, why is it so bad?
Oh yeah, God is jealous.

"The question you raise as to the place in one's life that a deep bond of love with someone we meet other than our husband or wife can have is easily defined in view of the teachings. Chastity implies both before and after marriage an unsullied, chaste sex life. Before marriage absolutely chaste, after marriage absolutely faithful to one's chosen companion. Faithful in all sexual acts, faithful in word and in deed."
(Compilations, Lights of Guidance, p. 360)
This only leaves to define what constitues marriage, and whether God knows who will be married, and therefore who already may be married in eternity, though it hasn't happened temporally...?

How exactly does marriage change things? All it is is a legal status. It doesn't stop either partner from cheating and it doesn't prevent diseases from being passed from one to the other.
What are your beliefs on divorce? Abstinence or don't even dream of breaking the marriage vowes?

Read Mark 10:6-10 and 1 Corinthians 6:16.
If you have sex, you are married before God. Sex is not wrong. Having sex with more than one, or lightly is a sin.

"It's there in black and white...."
Where?
I've read through the entire bible twice, and I never saw anything that mentioned premarital sex. It mentions adultery, and a death penalty for prostitutes.
There is nothing wrong with consensual sex between adults in a committed relationship. STDs can be avoided, and most of them can be treated, and many of them cured outright.
Time to join the rest of us in the 21st Century.

as a Christian mentioned earlier
the ceremony for marriage is only a legal obligation
to be married in the eyes of God is quite a different matter
so as said above ... if a couple are in a secure relationship and are together for many years ... isnt this a marriage in the true sense ?
marriage as we know it has nothing at all to do with God

Why would we take only parts of the bible as law and disregard others? Have you read Leviticus, specifically 19:19 --
" 'Keep my decrees.
" 'Do not mate different kinds of animals.
" 'Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
" 'Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material"
And it goes on to say that who so ever would do so shall be stoned to death. In that line of reasoning, farmers who rotate crops should be killed, along with any of us who are wearing cotton-polyseter blend shirts. I don't see this being practiced, maybe you do.
So if we are to hold up SOME portions of the bible as infalible fact, then we need to hold up ALL of the bible as infalible fact.

... working on Sunday is a sin punishable by death... but millions of Christians work on sundays.
Many people only see the virtues of the scriptures WHEN its suits their own personal agenda and convenience.
