I don't know if your question is hypothetical or not.
I was raised in the Epsicopal church. In high school I chose to go to a non-denominational church with my friends. I spent the next 10 years in this 'bible-believing' church.
In spite of all my prayers and best efforts, I remained just as gay as I was when I entered the church.
I know many, many people who were raised in a 'holy' atmosphere of a 'christian' church. When these women/men finally struck up the guts to come out to their parents/church the result was, more often than not, anger, horror, dismay. Many of these people were ex-communicated from their churches. Some were simply driven away by the deep disapproval and fear those in the church expressed in their presence.
The sad fact is that parents, pastors, deacons - people who are supposed to provide guidance and love - often denounce their son/daughter and drive them away. Parents blame the kids for listening to the wrong kind of music, for hanging with the wrong crowd. Sometimes one parent will blame another parent for 'making' the child gay. Sometimes they will blame a TV show, or a book. Sometimes they will just blame the devil, and insist that no one could possibly be created that way.
It is very sad to see how such harsh ideology can turn a parent against his own child.
The fact is, gay people come from every walk of life. We are born with this orientation. As distasteful as you fundie Xtians find this to be, it is the truth. No one 'chooses' to be gay. One is gay. One chooses whether to be honest with one's parents, one's friends, one's church. Or one hides and lives in shame and fear.
I, for one, am glad that I chose to be honest with myself, with my parents, with my friends, and with my God. I am a better person today because of it. And I am much closer to God.
All of you who point fingers and wag tongues and thump bibles, I would like to remind you of the verse where Jesus exhorted the man to remove the plank from his own eye so he could better see the speck in his brother's eye. This verse seems to have been completely lost these days.

Why wouldn't I just remain a Christian?
Anglicans, Unitarians, United Methodists, and Quakers officially accept homosexuality as an alternative sexual orientation, and most of the remaining denominations employ Clinton's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. Only a few denominations actually condemn homosexuality outright.
And the Bible does not condemn homosexuality... in fact, it does not even address the homosexuality that permeated Biblical civilizations. All it condemns is homosexual prostitution as a form of worship, and then only in two of the 66 books of the Bible.

God does not create a person with homosexual desires. The Bible tells us that a person becomes a homosexual because of sin (Romans 1:24-27), and ultimately because of their own choice. A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as people are born with a tendency to violence and other sins. That does not excuse the person choosing to sin by giving into their sinful desires. If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger / rage, does that make it right for then to give into those desires? Of course not! The same is true for homosexuality.

>>If you were born & raised Christian but had strong homosexual feelings....? would you be able to control them your whole life and force yourself to be attracted to women to accord with what the bible says?<<
1) Your question is sexist; it assumes all the readers are male.
2) The Bible doesn't say anything about 'forcing oneself to be attracted to the opposite sex.'
3) One can't control feelings; one CAN control ACTIONS.
4) I have feelings of attraction to many forbidden to me by God; being in control of my ACTIONS, however, I am able to refrain from engaging in immoral sexual behavior.

Sweetie-
We have a lot of temptations in this life but does that mean we should lack self-control because of it?
Should a pedophile be encouraged to molest little children?
Should a murderer not be held accountable for the choices he makes?
Should a married man not hold to his vows of faithfulness he willingly makes to his wife?
Our tendency is to sin...
so should I give myself over to road rage or verbally abusing my children?
No. There is a better way. Wisdom comes from following the manuals that came with us when we were born. Surely, our creator would have sound advice on how to live life to the fullest...
so I lean towards wisdom and self-control...
not merely because God wrote it but because I can vouch that the writings I've practiced from God's Word is tried and true.

You do not belong to Christianity. It belongs to you. Christianity does not belong to any group, but to each person individually.
Do not follow the masses. Follow yourself. Around 10% of the males are homosexual, and although the other 90% discard them in the mass scream of "mayority as one whole", you are to follow the path God has given You.

I would go with my heart. If I loved someone of the same sex, then I would feel lucky to be in a fulfilling relationship. Unfortunately religion forces us to choose a certain way of life. In reality if you are a decent, respectful and caring person and love someone and they make you happy and treat you with respect, shouldn't that be what counts? Please don't force yourself to be someone your not.

It is very difficult, though possible, but the effort would remain pointless if it were not for a detachment of all temporary pleasures so that eternal ones may be prefered...

You can't be born a Christian... being born in a "Christian" home doesn't make you a Christian anymore than being born in a deli makes you a bagel.
A person becomes a Christian when they believe from their heart that Jesus is God's son, that he died for our sins and rose again...
That said, God doesn't expect us to be able to make ourselves sinless or perfect. If that were possible, Jesus would not have had to die for us.... God helps those who CAN'T help themselves... so we come to him, broken and flawed, and HE enables us to live for him... He matures us, washes us, and makes us able to stand blameless before him.
It's his doing in us... not our own doing.
Whether drugs is your problem or an addiction to sex with any gender... HE works in us, HE makes us blameless... not we, ourselves...
