Atheist seem quick to shoot down religion, and basically think anyone who is religious is ignorant (all 5.5 billion of us) but at least with religion there is hope. What hope does atheism give?

Clarification::: Buddists are not atheists...stop with the association, Atheists should not try to group a religion into their non religious religion...anyway, the point of the question was to show the true colors of those without faith. The first thing atheists seem to do is tear down someones belief system by claiming they are the only ones living in reality...when in fact they are only denying it.

As I understand it, they hope in nothing. I guess they feel that this is as good as it gets. Atheism is not a religion. It is more a belief (or non-belief) theory, assumption. They evidently feel there is no God. No God means no everlasting life, no Heaven. I guess that means they hope in nothing. I fear that that is just what there going to get.....nothing. Or-maybe that place called hell that they don't believe in either. I guess they'll find out some sorry day...

Beliefs in dis-beliefs seem to be the definition in atheism "as I see it" So from the outside looking in I would "think to believe" that all groups of one form or another have general beliefs but within the groups beliefs can vary.
Jane and Steve are atheists and both believe in the disbelief in a God or Gods. Jane likes Italian dressing on her salad and believes it tastes good while Steve doesn't believe in even eating salad never mind what type of dressing tastes best.
Eve and Adam are not Atheists and have a common belief in a higher power. Both believing that apples taste good but Eve more than Adam has a divine taste for "ribs"
So seeing that all have beliefs in some sort or another that only leaves the definition of religion. Atheists seem to be more free thinking with no set ideology while people who follow a religion adhere to codified beliefs and rituals that generally involve a faith in a spiritual nature. But as it occurs to me upon thinking about your question is there not "freethought" within all religions as well as beliefs in groups without having faith in a higher power.
Its like asking what came first the chicken or the egg. I am sure on the whole atheists don't think everyone that is religious is ignorant, that might just be your "freethought"

Hope of what exactly? That you're in the right religion? You cannot simply group all religions into the category of having hope because if one religion is right then others are wrong be default.
Now, to answer your question:
Assuming that an atheist isn't part of another godless religion (eg. Buddhism) it's likely that they put their faith in the world around them, their friends and family etc, just as I'd imagine you do. How is there anything wrong with this?

Somebody has to be top of the class. I trust anyone I deem trustworthy, same as you I'm sure. You know that the Non-religious are the fastest growing sector in the USA don't you? And yes I do think anyone who believes in a personal god is ignorant, but I do not think it is their fault. I used to be ignorant.

rational and logical thinking have solved many of the world's problems. To the best of my knowledge, religion has only contributed to them. To me, the first sounds like a reason for hope, while the second does not.
But, hey, that's just me.

Why do we need false hope? We trust ourselves and that is enough. Also, I don't think religeous people are ignorant, I just think they are insecure in themselves and their place in the world, and need a set of rules and belifs to justify their place in it.

Why is it that the difficult-center Christians are the first ones to inform human beings they are going to hell? Why do they care? i presumed they weren't meant to be judgemental. and that i assume each of the Christians "sit round with their mouths close" like you're doing on the on the spot? i don't know what "morales" are yet i know what MORALS are and merely because i do not position self assurance in fairy thoughts does no longer advise i don't have them. And by the way, God created my mind and enables me to imagine, ask questions, and type my own critiques. How about human beings worry about themselves and end criticizing others for no longer having a similar perspectives as them.
