its a few days later now, and we have been to the vet, he is still not eating although the vet could find nothing wrong....we have been syringing water with electrolites (from the vet) every hour and hes nibbled on a few things but no real meals.....but his mood is much more normal....thanks to everyone who answered with care and thought!!

unfortunately vomitting causes dehydration.
since u cannot get the dog into the vet until tomorrow i would look for another vet that would take the dog before then. dehydration kills.
u can get some regular flavor gatorade and keep gatorade down the dog every hour or so. pedialyte is also good to use but gatorade is less expensive. Try some boiled chicken and rice to see if the dog would eat that.
i definately would call other vets and get the dog in today. If it is something serious it could be life threatning and cause u the life of your dog.

Hope your dog is ok and the vet sorts him out tomorrow. Try taking a small bowl of water and holding it under his head and encouraging him to drink, or ice cubes.. His electrolites are probably really low if he is being sick and not taking in any fluids. Keeps persevering with the encouragement of water. Is there an emergency vet that are open 24 hours any where near you? Try yellow pages even if it isnt local ring for some further advice. I am not a vet and dont know the dangers but believe fluids are what your dog needs right now... Get them down him anyway possible (without force)
Good luck and hope he is ok, keep us updated

I would say that if it was something to be majorly concerned about the vet would have gotten you in sooner. Not too long ago my dog was sick and wouldn't eat or drink, and it just scared me for her health. However, I remember being sick when I was younger and just having my mom be there for me and hold me and tell me everything was going to be okay, made a world of a difference. Our dogs need that type of love and compassion. Even though Daisy was sick, I still spent time holding her and telling her that she was going to be okay. I believe dogs have a sense of knowing. Therefore the next time Daisy is sick, she knows that I'm going to be there for her and to comfort her.
That sounds like a total no-brainer, but I really think it would help your dog and I hope he gets better soon!

Go to a vet immediately!!! There is nothing anyone can tell you over the internet that will cure the dog. On the contrary, there are many things we can tell you that will harm the dog. I just buried a cat because I didn't take her to the vet early, but tried to cure her myself.

Take him to a vet immediately. It sounds a little like poisoning, but either way, the dehydration could kill him very quickly.

Take your dog to the vet and asked why your dog has been throwing up all night..There's reason why he was throwing up all night..Its better to seek a professional for help before everything was to late..I've learned it from my experience... whenI didn't take my dog to the vet and waited to long.
